Might be stepping up in cams...

My buddy decided to get rid of his 272's and asked me if I wanted them. I've been thinking of getting these for a while. Only thing is, I have my car flashed for my 264's and I'm not sure when I'll be able to get my car retuned. I don't really want a base mail in flash. I guess I could get a mail in flash for a band aid til I can get a custom tune.

Do you guys think it would be okay to drive for a while with my car tuned for 264's?

Shiv has a basemap for the xede for cams, he says we can run that for any combo of hks cams. 264/272/280 - the differences are apparently very small in the overall tune.

I don't think I'll ever use 280's to thier full capacity. I think 272's are big enough for a stock turbo car revving to 7200-7500.

I have an appointment to have the 280's, SMC alky kit, walboro FP, and ARP headstuds installed and tuned on an AEM EMS with MAF delete in a few weeks, hopefully the car will come alive after all is installed and tuned

I'm startign to think how I love the low end torque I have on my car with the 264's. I'm thinking maybe just doing the 272/264 combo, but I don't actually know which one is 272 and which one is 264.

You guys with 272's, do you have as much low end as you did with the stock cams?

^ I don't know why people still think you lose low end power with cams, you don't.

I think the decision on what camshafts to get was one of the hardest decisions I had to make. I went with the HKS 272's. Just keep reading the posts and do research.

As far a upgrading to 272's do the band aid thing and get a mail in flash for the piece of mind.

exactly... At our last local dyno day my tq and h power came as early and higher than other cars, and I remained 10-20 above until 6K when I pulled timing. It's totally usable power! I have 272s with gears set at 0,0 (Don't need gears, but I got them cheap...)

Here's the chart (the #s look low, but keep in mind the red line car that peaks at "302" trapped 113.9 on pump gas...)

Blue line (272s 0,0 pulling timing after 6K )
Red line (272s -4,-1 - powerband's shifted right)
Green line (stock cams)

The point of the chart is not the numbers, but to demonstrate that my low end torque is not suffering at all from the cams. In fact it kicks ***...

Thanks for the dyno sheet. That gives me a better idea of the gains over stock cams. I'm just curious of how much of a actual difference there is between 264's and 272's.

I'm goona try to search about some stuff on them.
