A 40R is good for about 750whp or more. There is a articale in the new Turbo and high tech performance about Als' 40R set up, he made like 766whp with more left in it. I think it has a .96 exhaust side and a .72 intake. I have a thread w/ pics of my setup from RNR racing.

Ok, now the choices widen.
GT35r
GT40r
GT42r

I want a set up to do low 10 seconds in the 1/4, and mostly, sit you back in the seat pretty hard. would the GT35r with a 50-75 shot accomplish that? I need headwork, and pistons/rods correct? What flavor internals should I get? What is the price difference of the kits above? I have a GT35 kit in mind. RNR. Anyone have this kit? Or should I get it, run it hard, and report on it?

Smoked, I don't think sit you back in the seat pretty hard is good description of a 10 second 135mph+ trapping EVO. Have you ever been in a car that fast? I've been in a 9.68@138mph 68 camaro and the great launch aside that car was almost too fast.

I would recommend a 35R for the simple fact that you use the smallest turbo that will meet your requirements. A 35R has trapped over 140mph, so if that is not enough for you go bigger, but be warned you may not like your car on pump if you go any larger. Get ready for the carnage too: transfer case, axles, get ready to blow 2K on a clutch, it's get's very expensive trying to build a 10sec EVO.

My last bit of advice is go to a reputable shop. I like Bushcur, but any of the big names will be great.

Good luck.

Thanks Jasil, your information is very useful.

Is it true that you have to rebuild the "cartridge" (wheel) every year at 1K a pop? I heard this a while ago, but dont know if it is still true! The GT35R is the one for me. How much building of the head is needed? just dual springs? stage V? what bottom strengthening is needed? what pistons and rods do you or anyone reccomend? Again, thank you!

Kevin, are you looking to stay with a 2.0l block, or are you looking to go with a 2.3l?

IMO, the GT35r is the way to go, and I'd definitely go with AMS.

pauter rods and ross pistons. I run the fullrace kit and i'm very happy with the power, performance and build. It can't be beat! as for valve springs, they really aren't needed. i rev to 8k and a few others rev to 8500 and have had no problems.

you don't need nitrous to get low 10's on a gt35r, and you can do it with a 2.0 just fine.

If you are used to the TME with alky injection, I would recommend a stroker with the GT35R. Just my opinion. You may hate the lag. Al talked about how great his 2.0 was until he put the stroker in.

You don't need nitrous for nice power on a 35R w/ a decently built motor. The nitrous does aid in spooling the turbo, but definitely not needed.

If you're looking to be economical, check my sig. =]

Had an accident with my stock motor/turbo setup... now doing a whole winter build and changing turbo setups too in the process. If you have any specific questions, let me know. I have a thread with pics of every piece of the kit for sale.
