Finished up installing some IC pipes I made up and wanted to box off my intake. I thought about using some aluminum sheet, but that would have cost more than $20. So I bought a $3.50 storage bin from WalMart and used it.

A little work with some tin snips and it turned out pretty good. I removed the intercooler sprayer and ran a 4 inch duct from the bumper opening up into the boxed off area. My intake sits pretty high so I had to cut out a section of the box top to allow for clearance. But the opening allows for cold airflow through he box, which is good. Cold air flow should keep the temps in the box lower then if it was sealed off completely.

You should remove it and use it as a template to make one out of aluminum.

You should re install the stock air scoop and route it right into the hole that the filter is popping through.

I can't use the stock air intake, it interferes with the hood.

I made the MAF pipe. But it's a single bend style like the Buschur stuff.

The combination of IC pipes, mounting the BOV different, and the box have made the intake noise quieter. Th woosh, psssh, and chirps are not as loud.

I haven't driven the car hard yet, I've just been driving to work since I finished all of it. Maybe tonight.

I don't think the plastic will melt. There is plastic all over the engine compartment, it's fine. I actually think the install is cleaner than if I would have made it out of Aluminum. Aluminum would of had more sharp edges, and more seems.

 

you need to cover the top. Air up there is hot! I also did ghetto style CAI with thin aluminum sheets. it really helps especially when your radiator fan blows in traffic. my aluminum shield becomes pretty hot from the engine bay heat and my stainless steel blitz filter stays around outside temp. It used be my blitz filter getting so hot like my aluminum shield now.

Well it's hard to say what does what, but after taking the car for a couple good rips it is pulling a little harder in the 5000 RPM range and a little more up top.

Could be lots of things, the IC pipes are new, don't flex and probally help spool up and air delivery, it's also cold here in Utah so the box is sort of a wash right now. But the car is feeling really strong. Time to go check my tune and whoop up on some STI's.
