HFC is also illegal. Usually cops won't ask you if you have a cat or not. They don't seem to care unless they see the fire spitting out of your exhaust. But you can still tell them you have a cat. And they will give you the ticket to go the smog referee. Then, you put everything back to stock and go pass the test!
oh, yeah, HFC throws the cell too .... about once a month.

Hi,

A good high flow cat should be metal-substrate. It will out flow the old style creramic cat and last much longer. I am using the Helix 3" HFC with a cel fix without and SES light.

FYI, I had another brand of 3" ceramic HFC on my car before and I actually lost power but lets not get into discussing who's cat.

The Helix Hi-Flow cats are the optimal system for the performance minded EVO owner. This particular high-flow cat incorporates a 200 cell Metal-Substrate high-flow catalytic converter and thermal barrier heat-shield. The thermal barrier heat-shield assists in rapid warm-up of the cat for maximum efficiency and helps to keep exhaust gas velocities high.. Piping diameter is 3 inches and includes all necessary hardware for trouble free installation.

Hope that helped.

Thanks,
Tom

car sound cat 94209 ordered from performance peddler ~$60.

you'll need 2 flanges & some pipe to make it a usable piece. get them from rre.

great power, no ses light in my experience.

or buy a rre rally cat, not sure about ses, looks like a cat, make big power=resonated test pipe.

good luck

I was also searching for a HFC that wouldn't throw a CEL. But there were none that would guarantee it and I don't want to go around it by doing a CEL fix. So I decided to stay with the stocker, HKS downpipe and AVO catback. If I really need to go high flow, I will do Magnaflow. They are EPA and LEV certified as well as CARB approved. They are great as replacements as they are OBD2 compliant.

I can attest to the power gains of the metal substrate cat over the ceramic. Only downside is that my exhaust smells like I have a test pipe at idle sometimes. I also get a CEL every once in a while. No biggie to me.. I just clear it w/ my scanner.
