I take it when this happens, you're not seeing any smoke. Do you know what burnt clutch smells like?? That'd me my guess, just go easier on the cluth and you'll be fine.

Burnt Clutch or brakes to reiterate. I don't know anymore what trans or diff oil smells like but it used to be pretty wicked like that

it's for sure not coolant oil tranny fluid or brakes. coolant has that sweet smell but stinks oil is obvious brakes have that burning metal smell and the tranny just mells burnt but it really smelt like toast

Burnt clutch smells like a strong burnt smell. You can usually smell it in or out of the car.

If you're smelling this after you launch, or shift really fast while slipping the clutch -- there's a good chance you are smelling clutch. As far as replacing your clutch, I have 30,000 miles on my '03 and I'm still on my first one. Just be easy while shifting for a while. If you don't smell the burnt smell anymore - then it was probably the clutch.

My car has always had a characteristic "hot" smell, especialy when new. Kinda like hot plastic/rubber/paint combination, but burnt toast? You could cook your breakfast on the manifold though.

Is the first time that you've used the heater? My car is still pretty low mileage (turned 6K today) and I notice definitely odors out of the heater.
