I live in palm desert it is cold as hell in the mornings, I have used the heater a lot. I have a feeling it was the clutch som a**hole cut me off and I down shifted to fly by him and give him the finger. However the first time I smelt it today I was driving really easy we'll see next time it happens.
-thanks mike

After thinking about it, I'd describe burning clutch as smelling like burning rubber or plastic that stays in the air for a while. Still though, you description sounds like the clutch to me.

You live in S. California so no doubt you have been behind a truck or RV trailer overheating the brakes while coming down out of the mountains. That is what a burnt clutch smells like.
