Clutch smell??

Can the stock clutch and flywheel handle the stock power of the Evo? I notice a burnt clutch when I go a little hard on 2nd gear. Any suggestion?

your clutch is dying or you can't shift worth ****, but probably the clutch lol. Of course the stock clutch can handle the normal power of a 2nd gear pull, they would never put it in the car if it couldn't. The only time I ever smell clutch is if I launch which is almost never.

yeah it wouldn't make sense for mitsu to put in a clutch that cannot handle stock power. If they did then a LOT of other owners would be complaining of the same problem.

I only smell clutch when I launch....or if i've been in stop and go traffic for like 2 hours... that doesn't sound right. Do you know how to properly drive a standard car?

I got 52k on my stock clutch and i have 380 ft/lbs to the wheels. It holds just fine. You might be riding your clutch for a second too long on your 1-2 shift.

Stock clutches are ok depending on driving style. I gotta admit i've ridden on the clutch a couple times and now I need a new clutch. Some guys can go race their car, beat on it, daily drive it and their clutches seem to last forever. Again its all about driving style.

Stock clutches can handle a decent amount of power (400 WHP) if you are nice to it. The stock clutch can also burn completely up with stock power levels. It is all about how it is used. I have 27K on my original clutch with launches. To date, ZERO slippage.

I'll go either ACT or Exedy Twin for replacement but for right now, I'm fairly impressed with the stocker.

I have to admit that I did ride my clutch a little bit longer than I should. I mean, when I drive normally, it's fine. But thanks for all your help!

Watch that between shifts you remove your foot completely from the pedal and don't let it rest on the pedal waiting for your next shift. I see people do it all the time and they didn't even notice. Maybe

Well... I don't do that. From first gear to second gear, I go to about 4 or 5K rpm and then shift.
