o.k. guys, need advice with turbo choice....

i know, i know, another one of these threads. I HAVE read every thread on here about turbos. And still i cant make my mind up. I had a gt-35r from R&R Racing, with a UTEC. Bad combo. The Kit was fine, but the UTEC wasnt enough to get it running right. Up top, i was in heaven. But i only had 6000rpm to 7500 to play with. Yep, i hit 28 psi at 6000. Thats when the car came alive. Well i want that same feeling up top, but a little more in the mid range. I road race once a year for fun and i go draggin twice a year. Mostly i cruise around on the street. I want 425-450 HP. I just got the AEM. So i can controll any turbo. I thinking 3037 or ball bearing 50 trim......confused..........3071 might not be enough???? Ray

I would take a 50 trim or a gt 3076 over the gt 3071 anyday. For road racing I almost rather a stock 10.5 housing turbo as it has a great range of usuable power. I don't understand why the UTEC was limiting for you with the gt35r, its sounds as if you had a bad tune or something. You should have been spooling more in the 5300 ranger or so and reving out to 8k.

i will get the 2.3 in the next 12 mos. The UTEC had alot of MAF issues at idle. Hwy cruise was o.k. Could have been the tune, but the UTEC doesnt controll alot of things when you are below a certain load/tps. I just got off a site that had a 57 trim BB turbo. Good for up to 460 hp. Anyone seen one of these before??? I do FULLY understand the stocker is best for road racing. But i only do it once a year for fun. I want to base the turbo i get on the majority of my driving which is dicking around on the street. (legally of course) Maybe since i know ime getting a 2.3 in a year, get another 35r?? or a 2.3 with a 3037 or 57 trim would be a killer combo......confused....... Ray

I hear ya man. Sometimes it just gets to that point where you dont even want to look at the car anymore. I have been there with other cars.

If you ever want to feel the 30r i would be more then happy to take you for a drive. Just let me know.
