Problem with my evo. Need some help badly.

My car has been giving tons of issues.

Basically my car was running fine with the 280s, then I added a new intercooler now the car does not want to boost at all, and at time is get almost zero vacuum. it runs alright when its not trying to boost, but as soon as it crosses the zero its starts sputtering and the AFRs start reading really rich. The car will not go over 6 psi..

Has anyone ever expreinced anything like this with their evo.

Here is a list of my mods: HKS 280s, BR Delux FMIC, BR upper ICP, Alky injection, BR CAI, UTEC, Hallman boost controller.

Please help....

hmmm, I think you either have a very large boost leak (did you forgot to reconnect a hose or something) or you have a huge hole in your intercooler. I'm joking about the ic of course.

Definitely sounds like the symptoms of a huge boost leak. Check all your couplers. If it's that big it will be real easy to find.

Think about it... you install cams.. fine... install FMIC, car runs bad... can only be the intercooler itself (damaged) or huge boost leak due to faulty install (which is very easy to do!).

After you do an intercooler install you MUST do a pressure test! When I installed my FMIC, I tightened the clamps so tight I didnt think there was any way in HELL there going to be a leak anywhere... did a boost test anyway... found 2 major leaks!!!! I had to end up putting 2 clamps in certain places... JFYI

Put the stock IC back and if the trouble goes away, have someone ELSE install your deluxe IC

Interested in doing this since I upgraded to the Nisei IC..how did you perform this pressure test?

All you have to do is take off your intake, and make a pressure tester and put it on the turbo... then pressurize the system... if you have an MBC youre going to want to clamp it off otherwise there will be a loud air noise (like what a boost leak sounds like) coming out of the bleeder hole in the mbc.

Here is what a pressur tester looks like

Here is what a pressur tester looks like.. MachV sells them actually but theyre much cheaper to make yourself.

I doubt switching your intercooler would cause the timing belt to skip a tooth. I'd go back to looking for boost leaks.

When I installed my AEM cam gears on my evo, among lots of other parts (2 am saturday night, working all day on the car), I forgot to tighten the bolts and nuts for the adjustment. The next day I drove the car I was like "WTF", one was majorly retarded and the other advanced. But never experienced a tooth jumping.

Check the wear on your timing belt, also how was the tensioner when the install of the cams was done? Usually when a timing belt jumps a tooth its most likely due to incorrect tension on the belt itself.

yeah that is what i suspect, i am going to go pick up a new tensioner tommorow. Hope fully reseting the timming will solve alot of the problems.

There were boost leaks with the intercooler but they have been fixed, that was only half the problem.

Is the Timming belt tensioner a dealer only part?
