My car ran 9.97 at 142.32 mph with our 3" exhaust on the car. My brothers car has trapped 144+ at full weight and made 647 whp to the wheels through our 3" exhaust. Etc., etc., Point is a 3" exhaust if designed properly like ours is going to flow enough for just about any application.

We install the 3.5" systems on cars we put GT42's on as the turbine housing outlet requires something that large.

Have a good day.
3 in. exhaust have been used and proven yes. Your car has it and proves your above statement.

I have a friend who made over 700 with a 3 inch on a Celica all trac.

On paper with the right turbo a larger exhaust may actually make a couple extra hp. Some enthusiast who don't care for the extra sound may benifit from it. Other's may just like to make noise, to each his own. For any which reason if the extra xx prob x HP #'s may be worth it to some. Not really streetable IMO.

There are also other techniques that can be used to some what open up the exhaust. An extra wastegate at the bottom of the bend on the downpipe. Used with a small spring will open to relieve any excess pressure.

mine fit with the tie bars, but i made some SLIGHT fabrication on them for it to fit. it does not affect performance the way i did it.

If you are planning on making big power and would like to prevent any and all backpressure, our 3.5" turbo-back system is a great option. Priced just slightly higher than 3" versions, clears the tie bars with provided hardware and offers great ground clearance while being 7lbs lighter than the DC Sports 3" turbo-back. I run our system on my personal car and wouldn't trade the sound or flow for anything else on the market. Here's a link to the info complete with pictures/video/audio: http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/pric...t/EVO8_Goliath

I would like to see dyno numbers with 3'' then with the same car with no adjustments 3.5'' and see if it made any difference. Ive been debating on going to 3.5'' but not sure if its worth.

To be honest. 98% it wont be worth it.

If a 2.5inch 02 housing is for over 600whp, a 3" exhaust should be too

Yeah like 3.5 in exhausts are louder than **** I have one and I hate it, and nobody that i can find makes 3.5 in resonators looks like I have to go with a 3" resonator.

well which one do you have? I am in the process of making a 3.5" for my car and i have 1 resonator and thinking about putting in a 2nd resonator if its TOO loud. PM me for info on the exhausts if you have any questions about it. I may even sell mine if someone is interested (i might go another route). i will post pics and sound clips when Im done.....hopefully soon.

And the American psyche is flat wrong. Backpressure never did anything but rob power in both normally aspirated AND turbo applications. Claims that an engine 'needs backpressure' represents a failure in understanding how exhaust systems really work.

Backpressure reduces power 100% of the time in both normally aspirated and turbo applications. As for an EVO, I'd first be concerned that the turbine housing presents a bottleneck before worrying about the 3" exhaust system. If the hotside creates a PR problem, a larger exhaust system won't make a difference.

Hey, Ted, what do you mean by that?

At some given power point, a turbine housing will become the weak link in the exhaust system, and will create (or contribute heavily toward) a situation whereby the exhaust backpressure rises sharply above the intake manifold pressure. When this happens, it won't really matter how large the exhaust pipes are.

3.5" is overkill in my opinion, although it would sound pretty mean. If you are willing to get a hold of one I guess you really can't go wrong, but I think the 3" would suffice.

soon2bEVO, you are exactly right. The GT35R on my car is 2.5", car ran 9.97.

yes everyone says 3" is good enough, great, but when i am running my planned setup, then I THINK the 3.5" will help A LOT more than a 3"......its not just the size, but the little details of it all that helps in the end.....Full-Race has great parts and makes these little adjustments on their products because their engineering is quite superior to others. I am not using their stuff, I will be making my own, but I am a fan of their work.

when I was running the ams gt37 turbo kit and 3" turbo back, my traps were in the 145 mph consistently. I took off the cat back and gained 2 mph consistently, maybe it would be slightly less running a complete 3.5" turbo back... but as for daily driver making less than 700 whp I don't see a benefit running anything bigger than 3"
