building a fast/fun street/highway EVO 8

With my 05 EVO, I'm wondering if I should just stick with the stock turbo if I just wanna build a fast/fun street/highway car....

EVO 9 20G sounds interesting but I dont know if the extra $$$ would be worth it.

I would stay with the 10.5 till some track times start popping up before you go out and spend 1500 on a turbo.

I want the same thing as you man. What I plan on doing is staying with the stock turbo for now and going with the traditional exahust/cams/supporting mods route. If the new Evo 9 turbo or 20G-9 prove themselves to be worthy upgrades (and I have a feeling they will) then I will get that as well. I think this combination with mild cams and no alchy will give me the reliability, driveability, and general OEM-like driving perception that I am looking for. (the loud exhaust is going to kill that somewhat, but o-well).

Dont jump on the badwagon yet, let the people who have ordered the 20G-9 them test them out. Im also going to wait until I know how the regular Evo 9 turbo works on the evo 8. It will happen sooner or later.

This is exactly the samething i want. I plan on doing everything i can before upgrading the turbo that way we can see some hard numbers that the 20g-9 puts out and my car will be able to handle it well.

I know you are not posting your mods but I know that you just install the SMC. Anyway, know your limits, take your car to the track and/or to the dyno and see your improvements. This is a good way to see where you are and compare with other Evo owners. You might find out that keeping the stock turbo is not a bad idea, you just need to maximize the stock turbo and see what is capable of doing.
