Over Rev!!!!!!!

First off, I've had many modified cars and never done this before! UHmmm...I kinda went from 3rd gear to 2nd, instead of going to forth! I dumped the clutch and it was the hardest over-rev Ive ever experienced in my life!!!! My cars running like its on 2 or 3 cylinders, put..put..put. Like its miss-firing!!!!! Theres no mechanical clicking, grinding etc. Also my spark plugs are perfect! What do u guys think???? Ignition???? Timing??? ahhhhh, HELP! Is it possible for the valves to kiss the piston and not damage the PLUG?????? Any help would be great, thanks guys!!!!!!

do a compression test... maybe a bent valve. Do you have a reflash w/increased rev limit

hi.

i've some bad news for you; from what you described, you severely over-revved; most likely you have bent some valves....

and yes, it very possible for the valves to hit the pistons and the plugs will look fine.

the reason for the "putt putt putt" is that one or more cylinders has bent the valves enough that there is now no compression in that cylinder(s).

tow it to a shop and have a compression check done; then pull the head. i think you will find several bent valves. replace them, and if it were me, i'd also do the springs and retainers, too, as a precaution (they were severly stressed during the over-rev).

good luck!

todd

BTW, in racing lingo, that is called a "money-shift".....

There still might be a chance that just a vac line or something just popped off, so do an inspection before breaking.

bent valves is my bet. As others have stated, compression check is in order.

I hope this comment doesnt infer that you think the dealership should fix it under warranty. It is because people claim issues like this under warranty that Mitsu is so hesitant to cover our cars....

K thanks guys, lets start at the top. I have a aem ems set @ 7800 rpm limit, but that wont help much when my tranny slams my motor to like 10,000 rpm! I will do a compression test today and post the results! Heres the funny part, I just dropped that head in there, 2mm o.s valves, crower retainers and springs, hks cams! "money-shift" is mah phukin right!!!!

Alright, compression test showed (from left to right), 125-125-125-40-125!!!!! So does this rule out skipping a couple teeth on my timing??? Also, if I only bent 3-4 valves can I just replace those bent ones or do I have to do all of them??? I have j.e pistons, eagle rods, and knife edged crank, is there anyway theres damage to my bottem end???? Sorry about sperratic questions but my daily driver is F.U.B.A.R.'ed, HELPPPPP!!!!! Gracias guys!!!

#2 or #1 has 40 psi? You got an extra 125 in there.

Just as a crude check - wont tell you anything if negative - you might want to inspect oil filter fabric for debris (dont cut yourself) or even drop the pan.

Best of luck
