I gained 33whp from the 272's and cam gears on a mustang dyno. 270whp with stock cams, 303whp with 272's and cam gears. All at a very safe for 91 octane 11.1 AFR

i run 280's on my car, and i must say that 272's are the way to go. maybe 280's if you are out to push the stock turbo to the limit, but for most street users 272's are better suited. better idle and no loss in low end.
I agree...if your gonna get cams get the 280's and dont look back. I got the 272's on my car and im happy with them but if I had to buy again ill go for 280's. I rode in my friends stock Evo 8 with only 280's cams and HKS Vpro....that thing pulls hard. I couldnt feel any loss of low end from his car... even if there were some loss you could barely feel it anyways. His idles better than mine so I think its all in the tune... if you get the 280's tune right it will haul ***. Just look at all the people who upgraded from 272 to 280's. Barely anyone got rid of their 280's to go smaller. I say get 280's and call it the day...it will put a smile on your face and you wont regret thinking if you went too big.

- for a daily driver that only sees very occasional track use, get the 272s. I went from 272s to 280s (along with a lot of other stuff), and my car went from being an excellent daily driver, to being ... umm ... challenging to drive (part of which is the cams, with a larger part being the turbo kit/ems/injectors, etc.). I don't mind it, but most people would.
- if you're going to upgrade your valvetrain, I'd give very serious consideration to Revolver springs and retainers
- if you want a good idle with the HKS 272s and good power up top, set the cam gears to -4i/-1e. if you don't mind a lumpy idle, other settings may be better.
- why the head gasket? Is yours defective?
- get 5 bolt cam gears

I will be on a 3076R and well-tuned AEM EMS shortly. Is there any reason to go 272 as opposed to 280 given that setup? With the versatility of the AEM I can't see any downside to going bigger. Your thoughts?
