Arrow Diagnose my Transfer Case

What are the symptoms of a blown TCase?

Mine...

Extreme high-pitched whine at high rpm's in gears 2-5.
Sounds like metal-metal contact/grinding in the front end throught powerband.
When clutch is disengaged the noise continues almost a little louder.

History: Bought car w/ 7k miles and i swapped my clutch out at 13k. I havent even broken the clutch in yet. Car has been to the track once and other than that i have never gotten on it hard enough to cause a problem. I have never changed the rear diff. fluid and god knows if the dealer did. I put Synchromesh in the tranny and Redline 75w90 in the Tcase.

The strangest part of it all is i feel NO decrease in performance or driveability.

Anything and everything will help, i just want to know whats going on. Thank you.

hard launches or wrong fluid. But hard launches usually breaks something, doesn't really make it whine. The t-case does not like GL-5 rated fluids, it performs best on the stock Mitsu Diaqueen fluid. Some swear by Redline, but it is GL-5 rated. Regardless, 500 miles on Red Line it way to quick to cause the problem. I'm at a loss. If you bought the car with 7k miles on it, I guess you don't know what the previous owner did, but the t-case fluid doesn't need to be changed that quickly, it would be an assumption to say he changed it anyway, and put the wrong fluid in it.

Its probably the tc. Mine went after I had changed the clutch at only 15K miles. I didn't do any hard launches or anything. I traded the sucker in instead of paying up the *** to fix it. They didn't even know the difference. Thats what might have happened in your case. Try to work it out with the dealer...

im under the assumption that the dealer is going to laugh in my face. Also, isnt it considered a wear item and not covered or am i off?

with your mods they will laugh at you, your best option is to send it to tre to get it built, its going to cost the same to get a stock one and the tre is warrentied

no, the t-case is not considered a wear item and will be covered under the powertrain warranty. They probably would deny the warranty (assuming you fall in the time/mileage limit) if you have an aftermarket clutch or other parts on the car. Do you still have the stock clutch? I'm not suggesting that re-installing the stock clutch back in prior to taking it to the dealership would save you a couple $thousand........

that is exactly what is wrong. Mine did the exact same noises. new tc from the dealer is 3600.00. or you can get a remained one from tre if like waiting 100 years for their products.
