WORKS TRD 340 kit

Hey all,

currently buying an evo 8 (260Hp 5 speed version) and was doing some research, but need the experienced guys advice.

Seems like they have the most comprehensive kit (but I may be very wrong so PLEASE TELL ME)

I was looking at the Works TR 340 upgrade.

Option 1:

Includes: works exhale 76mm DP
works exhale 76mm intermediate pipe
works exhale 76mm axle back exhaust
drop in panel filter
works 269 cams
WORKS Brain Flash P2 ECU
works 65m throttle body appeture II

extras if I get the kit: works O2 76mm housing
works diverter valve

or piecing something similar together from all different manufacturers

option 2:

works O2 76mm housing,
works exhale 76mm DP
HFC? which one is good?
buschur racing cat back with magnaflow mufler
HKS 264 cams, (maybe 264 i/ 272e)
K&N panel filter
10.5 housing (maybe even buschur racing 20g-9 turbo)
AEM EMS
720 injectors (??)
exhaust manifold (??)
uprated I/cooler (bushur racing delux with pipes, or Nisei ??)

I know they will produce seriously different power, but with me living in South Africa its not that easy to get my current ecu modified, so I would need to go with a std kit from one manufaturer or standalone and if i go stand alone then maybe the second option is better
Do you think this is a good upgrade or would there be something else I should add or change?

I'm not scared to tune my own ems and it seems like the AEM one is simple (compared to what i've work with in the past) and popular.

I'm open too ALL options as i am pretty new to these cars.

I think you should check these out before making a choice.

For a street/road racing car i'd vote option 1. For a drag car go with option 2.

I have the Works TR340 kit plus a 10.5 hotside, LICP, and test pipe. It's a GREAT kit, very streetable and pretty darn quick.

sorry kinda off topic

the nisei seems like a comparible FMIC to the buschur there is a problem with nisei's testing though. If you look at their temps after FMIC temp even Before the start of the testing the outlet air is 12 degrees C that's lower than the ambient air at 16 degrees C. the buschur starts off at the exact smae temp as the ambient. They must have not let the nisei FMIC acclimate to the ambient temp before they started the testing or they ran the fan on it for some time before the testing. Still it seems to be a very good FMIC for the money, But not a huge difference as shown.

Well I have the WORKS 340 package as well with test pipe, lightweight flywheel an CK2 clutch and I love it. I can tell you from personal experience WORKS customer service is top notch. IMHO you will be very hard pressed to find better service than theirs. Im not saying anyone else is bad obviously I dont have experience with them, but I called around and e-mailed before deciding to go with WORKS and im 100% glad that I did.

Not to mention, the car pulls very hard...It puts a smile on my face everytime I floor it

IMHO, if you have little or no experience w/ standalone tuning, you should go w/ option 1. Your car will run great right out of the box. Then when you feel like you need more or you just feel like tuning yourself, then you can purchase an AEM later.

Yeah my poor baby is down for now We think its something in the tranny, so the tranny is out and being shipped to TRE for Jon to take a look at since he rebuilt it a while ago.

Thanks for the info guys, just a couple of quick Q's.

does the flash come already done, or do the need to flash it to the individual car once everything is installed?

don't you pick up CEL without the cat?

thanks
Mike

Interesting tests in those links..Pretty much it is saying that the bigger the core the better the cooling which is very obvious. Maybe if AMS picked up a Nisei intercooler they would hit 900hp awd ahhaha who knows..

Well i would imagine if you sent them your ECU they would flash it for all the parts, that way once you get them installed your ready to go. I have the UR test pipe and only had 1 CEL in 20K miles or so. I bought a code reader at a local auto parts store for $60 and if it pops up all I need to do is erase it That tool comes in very handy.

I would call WORKS and talk to them first hand, I can almost guarantee you once you talk to them you will be sold, they are badass IMO. I will never buy another mod again unless its from WORKS. I feel that strongly about them.
