new Spec stg 3+ clutch!

I just finished installing the new Spec stg 3+ clutch in the Evo today... I chose Spec with the influence of my shop, and it looks to be a great product, though it is not widely used by the AWD segment especially the Evo. I chose the “3+” due to the claimed drivability, longevity, and performance of the disk used. The stock clutch lasted me 35k miles, and then began to slip like hell.

Some specs:
New offering (introduced in October)
- Pressure plate w/ CNC pivot and pressure ring (manufactured in-house)
- 3000 psi of clamp pressure
- Full-face carbon semi-metallic disc
- Lightweight billet aluminum flywheel(CNC manufactured at a .001 tolerance) with replaceable steel friction plate

“Offers good daily drivability and better manageability than the stage 3, with even better wear characteristics.”

So far, the first 75 miles are great. The petal feel is like stock, and I have not had to adjust it up or down from the stock position. The flywheel is pretty light and I’m still getting used to it. Of course I am still in the break-in period and will have a review after 500 miles as well.

Here is a link to the install:

Just thought I could give another choice or perspective in the lineup for a clutch
.

Would you care to voice an opinion on the SPEC clutches? It sounds like you've got one

yes, i would like to know as well. I read most of the post you have on here and you seem like a knowledgeable/respected guy. I see Spec as more as an competitor than exedy or tilton for example to ACT (same design). Yes the ACT clutch does cost about 300 less than the same stage Spec clutch.

I dont want this to turn into a vendor shooting match, just wanted to let readers know about this clutch without bias. If anyone else has anything to ask or say besides the competition saying "good luck", please let me know .

I have Spec stage 2 and it's great. I've had it for maybe 20K miles and dragged it a ton, and it grabs perfectly - quick shifting into 3rd gear still snaps your neck . You've made a fine choice, although you'll most likely still hear from people who think theirs is so much incredibly better...

cool, yeah, i havent really gotten on it yet, but shifting into 2nd and 3rd, you can tell that it will grab like hell... I feel that if you tried to reach the limit of this clutch, you have the potential to break the stock drivetrain for sure... did you get the FW too, or just the clutch?

If anyone has followed my posts, you know that I don't like to bag on other people's product. Honestly every application is different and I haven't tested the Spec clutch for the EVO. All I have seen so far are the photos and the description given. I won't share my speculations because that is all they are at this point.

I know I would not buy a SPEC clutch after the trouble a friend had on his turboed SE-R, but like ACTman said each application is different. I hope it works out for you.

400 mile, minus the highway (600 total) bump

clutch feels great...

had to get used to the light FW, but the clutch drives like stock after the initial break-in period, i have not launched it yet though. This clutch will GRAB when you let it go in any gear.
There is slight noise under hard decel in the upper gears, but that is the light flywheel/drive-train.
I have 4-5 threads showing on the tip of the clutch adjustment bolt, same as the stock, no lockout seen as of yet.
