Clutch Prolem?
I dont think it s the TC, as the noise doesn't get louder with the RPM's, or when adding boost does it? Change the TC fluid, look at the old fluid, and see if it is still there. You only hear it while you push the clutch in?!? and if you hold the clutch in, it goes away? need more to chew on!!!
It only happens after the shift and clutch is let off. Also just found out today when I rev you will hear it also. About 2k to 4k rpms. When I go up to redline there is no sound. It is the same tone level no matter how hard I push the car. I will try the fluid change but I will have to wait till monday since the dealership is closed.
I would say drain the TC, look at the fluid for chunks, and see if it changes the pitch of the noise. If the clutch is IN, and you rev it, and still hear it doesn't sound like the TC to me, as when you "rev" it, there is no more load on the TC. is the revving done while on the road?: ie: push the clutch in and rev it? or is it while the car is stopped and you just rev it?
The same sound and tone level sounds like TC, mine got louder from 50-80, then it got quieter after 80. Call John at TRE: Team Ripp in Kalamazoo michigan, and describe to him whats going on, he will explain EVERYTHING, and tell you if it is the TC or NOT!
When you go to redline and there is "no sound" does that mean it tapers off? or just stops? what speed does it go away? This is getting interesting. I will help you where I can. I just feel like I still need more info from you.

OK from a dead stop I rev from idle to redline and dont hear a sound, from idle to 3k to 4k rpms I i rev up and it makes the sound. This is with the clutch disengaged and while the car IS NOT in motion. When the car is in motion and when I shift at lower rpms (around 3k to 5k rpms), I will hear the sound after the clutch is disengaged. If I WOT it, I do not hear the sound. I do not hear it at WOT. It only happens after a shift for 1 to 4 secs, then goes away. I will try the fluid change. Thanks for your help man.
Its NOT the TC if you can replicate the sound without the car moving! I say an issue with the clutch, throw out bearing, or engine related (as that is all that is moving and/or has a load on it when the car is NOT moving. my 2c. good luck.
i'm pretty sure it's the TC ...it has that metal on metal whine...gets worse and worse... i really hope i'm wrong...but i doubt it. TC noises are generally at low rpm/speeds ...

It cant be the TC! there is no load or spinning with the car at idle! you either spun a bearing, some internal engine issue, OR clutch problem, end of story. Search some of my posts, there is alot of info on this, and alot of people have answered on those threads! TC sounds increase with speed!!! with the CAR MOVING! hit search button, and enter "tornado siren" and look for "changed tranny, whine still there, or my other post. it is NOT what I say on there, it is what we ALL say! good info none the least!

Evoryder, if you can explain your logic on why you doubt you are wrong on this. I am not upset/mad etc... at you, but I think you are mis-leading this gentleman. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it is a DUCK.
Hey im not saying this the TC or not the TC...im thankful for your help. Im gonna look into what you told me by changing my fluids (needs to be changed anywayz) then check the fluids for chunk like you said.
Also something wierd happened to me today. Cruising around 70 to 80, I see this WRX Impreza coming behind me with Angel eyes (blue). He speeds passed me but not very fast, so I follow himm we arent gunning it or anything, just speeding behind one another. He starts cutting traffic aroun 90, I just keep going and then I step on the gas a little harder and all it does is Rev in gear on 5th. I let go of gas, then floor again adn its back to normal. Then it happened another 3 times and the rest of the drive was fine. About a 15 mile drive on the freeway. Then on my way home from a 60 mile drive, It happens to me twice. Could it be my clutch slipping? I tested my clutch with something I read. Put clutch in 5th and let go slowy until the car dies. If RPMS go up then Die, clutch is slipping. If not then its fine. My car just died only and no rpm rise. What could the problem be? Is this related to the noise posted in the Original thread?
Funny thing is this noise goes away sometimes. Then it comes back often. Im stumped.

To test the clutch (my method) if you are driving let say going from 1st, 2nd,3rd and instead of putting it in 4th, put it in 5th (instead of 4th) and stomp on the gas, until the revs get up there pretty high. that is usually when you will notice the "slip" hold the gas to the floor. Do this in a safe place, or you can go from 1st to 2nd, to 4th. stomp the gas, hold it as the revs rise to 6K 6500 (when you feel the slip, no need to keep going up the rev band, take your foot off the gas) if the rpm's rise (watch tach, although you will "hear" it and "feel" it slip, but you can "see it" slip also by watching the gauge. the revs will jump 500 or so rpm, and settle back to match the engine speed.
My assesment of your condition, is that it is NOT the TC, by the symptoms you mentioned. I say Clutch or TOB, or Engine. I was telling evoryder that I believe he is mistaken on his "assesment" of your problem. Just let us know what you find out. I have my apology speech written and ready, if evoryder is correct.
I just dont think it is the TC.

only reason i'm not 100% on the TC...is because he hears the noise in neutral ...just revving...
now that he has found out his clutch is slipping...leads me to believe it may be clutch/tranny related....i still got TC in my back pocket though

I never said the clutch was slipping
And by the looks of things I dont think the clutch is slipping. I tried the 1st to 2nd, then 4th. No rise in RPMS. It just drops rpms to the lvl it should be in that gear. Also tried the 5th to die test and it just dies without RPM rise. Once I get enough Money saved up im gonna go for a new clutch. Im probably going to change my fluids this weekend since I dont have time during the days. Just hope I dont find anything in my fluids. Also hope its not my internals. Thanks for the Help guys ill keep you guys posted.
