Maximum boost on stock turbo

I finally got my Defi BF Imperial boost gauge with control unit installed on my MR and Evo 9 . The Evo 9 peaks shide of 20PSI and it rapidly drops to 16-17PSI with just a K&n AIR FILTER.

On the other hand I am boosting 29-30psi on the MR on the stock turbo. My gauge only reads 28PSI but when I boost the needle clearly surpass the 28PSI marking.

I am wondering what is the maximum limitation on the stock 10.5 turbo and 9.8 Turbo as well.

I want to hear from you guys, what is the significant high boost reading you are getting. Am I really maxing out my turbo at this point or is it capable of any more boost? I ordered DC sport Header, Ordering Works 02 housing and either Nisei or Buschur FMIC, would that give me any more boost?.

A test on the dyno Mustang revealed that when Al raised the boost on my car to the max it actually made less power . My car made more power at 28PSI that at max boost, unfortunately I did not have a accurate boost gauge at the time to tell how much boost I was making.

The theory is that once the turbo reaches a limit of boost its efficiency drop because it puts more hot air. Would that theory be busted if I install a bigol FMIC?

Loading a few pictures as we speak

Picture one is the peak on my MR

Picture number two is the center console with the DEFI controller unit on the right and SMC controller on the left (on the Evo 8 MR)

Picture number 3 is the Defi Controller unit on the Evo 9 (it is nice to have a pocket there)

More pics. Sorry about the mismatch.

Pic number one shows maximum peak boost on the Evo 9 with K&n
Pic number two is me installing a secondary "T " fitting for the Defi control unit, the other "T " fitting is used for the boost sening device of the SMC alcohol controller

Pic number 3 shows the two controllers(SMC and Defi Unit)

Oh yeah, if someone is wondering, I did not take the pictures while I was driving, I took the pics after the runs. The Defi Control Unit recoreds the runs for a few seconds and it has a memoery that display maximum boost.

It should max around 28-29, but it's not efficient beyond 25psi. That's where I would have thought you'd set it. I do not plan on going over 25psi on my alky tune.

Everything is in his sig man. Of course he has a boost controller...

He also mentioned the tuner by name in his post (in addition to his sig).

Oops...my fault. Why would the boost controller be turned up so high; that is my main question. My car has a custom flash; no boost controller. I usually go from 22 to 20 psi.....but sometimes I get spikes up to 25 psi.

Because he has an alky kit, I suppose. He also put down insano torque as a result.

Warrtalon,

We (Al and I ) discovered at the dyno that more Boost does not necessarily mean more power. I am going back to Dynochip(Phoenix) to find the sweet spot on this turbo, that means I want to find the maximum performance at the right boost.

Definately I will post results. So you are going to be running 25PSI Warrtalon?

How much power were you making before you got the alcohol kit; and at what PSI?

Yes, I'm definitely aware that more boost is not necessarily synonymous with more power. I only want to run 24-25psi, because that's still within the stock turbo's efficiency range, it will help it to last longer, and it will be more safe for road racing.

Definately that was the most important question in the history of my car. I would answer you that one on a PM. I don't want to answer that publicly.
