help with aftermarket intake

hey all, im new here...
i run a search on this topic but came up empty, so if it is here i apologize.....
i work at a mitsu dealer and dont have alot of experience with aftermarket evo parts, because the dealer i work for normally stays away from this type of thing. but i like working on this type of thing and am still learning about modding evo's, and i got the dealer ok with this type of thing, but i have to do my own research and learning........anyway, sorry about rambling, here is my question....
i have a 05 evo in the shop that has some mods, i dont know all of them but it has a "weapon R" short runner intake manifold.....when the car came in it had a bad oil leak, which is the oil pump housing, but the car also ran like ****. it wouldnt stay running when cold, and it would idle at 2500 rpm when warm, and idle would go up and down....when i was cleaning off engine to find leak(using brake cleaner) the engine would start racing...ok vacumn leak that i thought was gasket......so i pulled manifold and found a 6 inch split when the edges are welded together. i want to know if anyone has experience with this manifod and if this happened to anyone else....oh im sure the part number on manifold is #1003 or 1103. also the customer told me intake was only on car for about 1 month....1000-1200 miles
i know im a tech making a living, but i like working on modded cars and im trying to help out one of my customers.....
thanks for any input, and anyone in s.w. florida needing a good guy to take your lancer/ evo .....im your man..

that was my thought too.....a shost runner sheet metal style intake seems a little unnecessary for street use to me, especially for 800 bucks....but he likes it and i dont think he has stock maniflod.......any ideas?

first of all i think he needs a tune for that manifold so its better for him to get the stock one back or you could repair the damaged manifold.

It sounds like the problem is the crack in the manifold. Either fix the manifold or replace it w/ the stock one. Tuning isn't the problem.
