I've been looking all over the place for a good deal on K&N drop-in filters. It seems the lowest number I can find is $62.14+FREE shipping. The only thing is they charge me taxes for being in CA. Is there a place that I can buy one for cheaper?

You might want to reconsider getting a K&N drop in filter because the oil tends to cause our maf to read incorrectly. I am running the HKS hybrid filter without any issue. Please give us a call if you need more info.

This is ONLY true if the filter is over oiled...i have run K&N filters on all my vehicles for years with absolutely no problems...

 

It's not always true since I have been using K&N drop-in for my 2 evos since day 1 with no problem. Unless some one accidentally "deep fry" it in the oil tank it shouldn't happen. I hold both the filters side by side and the K&N is much better quality hand down.

 

Not much different! I have one 3 years old and still look like new after I washed it. Save some money if you want.

been using k&n for years, no MAS problems. just don't over-oil them after cleaning, and be sure to check for loose bits of rubber from the mold edges before installing (that's what i think the real problem was for whoever had them).

 

I personally would sped the couple extra bucks and get the Works filter.
I have it and I have proven dyno gains from it. Not to mention the filter is also constructed with a thin metal mesh over the filter element itself (pretty much identical to the apexi power intake filter). From all of the filters that I have seen in my day, I would rank this drop in as one of the best.

Plus, it showed me +7 whp and +9 ft lbs of torque difference on the dyno. I just did the comparison this last saturday.

what are the differences between works and k&n? the works just has a bit larger surface area filer, right? that and it costs twice as much.

 

Yes, it has a larger surface area or filter element. In addition, like I said in my previous post, it is also constructed with a thin metal mesh over the filter element itself (pretty much identical to the apexi power intake filter). Given the fact that I have used the Apexi Power Intake filter before, I rarely had to clean the filter. This was mainly in part due to the mesh cover on the filter.

Yes it costs more, but hey I was pretty happy with the dyno proven gains that I received from just the filter.

The K&N is a good drop in replacement. But, I wanted something a bit bigger and a filter that would actually filter more, or better. That is why I went with the Works drop in.

The WORKS filter was engineered to mimic the OEM design. It's not just a filter element with a blob of rubber around it. We also use a cloth fabric (rather than the gauze) as the openings are more consistent providing both increased flow and filtration.
