Evo 1 starter shot and clutch is toast. Replacements?
Hey everyone. Being new to the site, I know all forums are very informative on automotive problems and valuable information on vehicle repair and tech specs. I have a newly aquired but somewhat dilapitated EVO 1 that I can't seem to get any feedback from the DSM forums to see if stateside parts will work for this engine. I have a couple quick questions if anyone would like to fill in about:
Starter is shot. I'm not sure if anyone has used an Eclipse/Talon/Laser unit as a replacement. Picking up one of those and mailing it here saves me over 300 bucks if it works. Starter serial #: M1T70483 12v 3309 stamped on the back of the solenoid.
The clutch is toast. I'm seriously considering the ACT 2100 street kit, but not sure if a DSM clutch will bolt right up. I've done a clutch job on a Skyline GTS-4 not long ago and that was a pain. I've done a job in the past on a VW golf and learned that by removing all connecting hoses / electrical lines, removing the RF wheel (and wheel hub? ), unbolting the nearest motor mount on the transmission, the motor assembly drops and the tranny with transfer case ( in theory ) should slide off after removing all bolts around the bellhousing and disconnect the driveshaft. Has anyone done a job like this and know how difficult it is?

All parts from the earlier dsm's should work for your car since they use the exact powerplant setup. It was left unchanged until later years. PM me, i have what your looking for.
The clutch job is pretty straight forward if you know what you are doing. You will need to pull the t-case along with both axles. The t-case on the earlier evos/dsm's are 10x easier than on the current models. Unbolt 5 bolts that hold it onto the tranny and slide it off the dowel pins and off the driveshaft and your good to go.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Good luck.

Awesome. I appreciate the reply.
The job doesn't look too daunting.
One last question: Does anyone know about wether I can use the 6g72 starter or not?
