Oh Yea.

"Whoa, tobz, that does not even begin to explain the differences in the IX turbo"

I think it does begin to explain....

The weight difference (33%) referenced above is just the wheel, not the turbo itself.

The TME is a great turbo, perhaps the ultimate Street turbo for quick spool on a Evo 8. Unfortunately in my opinion the TME wouldn't outpower the stock Evo 9 turbo .

As Warrtalon explained before, the Mivec on the Evo 9 makes the Evo 9 turbo spin almost as fast or faster than the TME but with better top end.

My recommendation would be to sell the TME turbo to a 03-04 Evo owner, that will make a big difference on their cars.

Another issue that you would have is the relocation/retrofiting kit for your Evo 9. I haven't seen people using the 03-05 Evo 8 turbo into a Evo 9. When fitting the Evo 9 turbo into a Evo 8 you require a relocation kit or some kind of custom fitting..but I am not 100% sure.

Just my .2c

I also forgot to mention that a retunning is necessary which would put you like this:

Labor for swapping turbos
Relocation kit ($175) or custom fitting
Tunning($200-$400)

It looks like the TME would be the best bet. I do not know if the anything else is changed. But it does not indicate it in the part number. The A in the part number is for the Titanium.
t.
Wrong! The IX turbo is TD05HR-16G6C-10.5T. The # you listed is the '05 VIII turbo.

Actually this is not correct information. First of all if it was an aluminum wheel, it wouldnt have "T" in the part number. After having talked to Robert Young of FP, I was told that they are the same wheels, different compressor and bearing housing. The stock IX turbo is superior to the 10.5 TME turbo. There are apparently some IX's that have a magnesium compressor wheel, and these ones are not very good at staying together.

Why not just buy the Evo 9 compressor cover for your TME??????

the evo 6.5 titanium turbo still makes more power than the stock USDM evo 9 turbo. though i dont know if it shares the same as the Japan and Europe models.

On GSR, the turbocharger uses a lengthened diffuser to generate more low-end and mid-range torque (295lb ft/3000rpm) as well as bring a significant improvement in response (average 5%) across the full rev range.

On the RS and GT, the turbocharger compressor wheel uses magnesium alloy instead of aluminum alloy.

Why should the TME produce more power when compared to the Evo 9 turbo?, correct me if I am wrong but the flow on the TME is equal to the regular 05 Evo 8 Turbo, it just spin faster.
The Evo 9 turbo on the other hand flows significantly more air, I estimate around 15% more. I don't think the TME turbo would make much power than the regular Evo 8 turbo however I think it would make the Evo 8 a bit faster due to faster high revin capabilities and no turbolag..

I am not going to go thru the trouble of quoting myself, but listen, when someone like Robert Young (who owns ForcedPerformance) says the IX is better...it is. He is not going to tell me that my stock IX turbo is better if he could sell me a TME and make money.

The whole point of this thread is someone thought that they needed to keep the TME and sack the IX. Spark Notes= The 16GC-10.5T that comes with the IX rules all. Well at least all stock turbos that come before it (with the probable exception of the 15GK rally turbo).

I kind of follow the same trnd on that comment, when i did an upgrade of my turbo for my ex-WRX Forceperformance shop really gave me the best options, this guys was very neutral and did not try to sell me the product to make money.

Off topic but their customer service(Forcedperformance) is very sharp, when I was parting out my WRX they faxed me all the receipts from the purchase I made from them . I have reasons to belive that Forcedperformance are a trusty company, they deal with turbos all day long.

With all these guys swapping cams on their 9's......what does that do to the mivec? Does this effectively render the mivec non-existent? I am still unclear on this aspect of it.
