not mentioned yet, but I recommend 2.4l. Rev mine to 8k all day long and get the low down torque and quick spool.

seriously, if you have doubts why don't you give the guys at AMS a call or any other reputable shop that has built both 2.0 and 2.3L engines builds and see what info they give you. I know if you talk to AMS and tell them what your goal is they can help you acheive the goal without usless parts that won't help your outcome. It's worth a phone call for good info. It can't hurt you to get more informed before you spend a lot of money

You don't need more than an 8,500 RPM limit. Unless you have a big turbo (GT), your power will decline after 7500 anyway so you should be shifting by 7800-8000 at the latest.

When you do a build, 2.0 or 2.3 stroker, do springs/retainers. If you do get a GT35 or something: on a 2.0 you'll be able to rev to 9000 anytime with no worries, and on a 2.3 you can hit 8500 occasionally and remain very safe.

Doing the cams/springs/retainers when the head is off for the shortblock work will save you several hundred $

I decided to go stroker after I spun a bearing and it's being built right now. A lot of the people on this board are only concerned with Max HP which really doesn't mean anthing if you don't have area under the curve.

It's all about a more useable power range and more torque.

My temporary setup will be:

'03 Evo
Exedy Twin disk
Buschur Race FMIC
255lph
UTEC
Dynoflash
AEM Intake
Helix DP
Apexi Catback
Retainers

Temp - stock cat
Temp - stock turbo

I want to keep my setup street legal and emissions compliant (OBD-II scan for emissions in VA) so I can't go ALL OUT. The car should be a ton of fun and I am waiting on my quaiffe to get in

Another thing to worry about is when your reving that high, oil burning issues become a problem. Hell, when I go out and rev my car to 7800rpm during some races I see a noticable affect on oil consumtion when checking the dipstick the next day. However, when shifting at 7k or just after, there is little to no consumption. Ask the honda boys, they are always pooring oil into their motors(I had an 03 S2k and she took down the oil quite liberaly). I just don't want a motor thats gonna be an oil machine, so if I can stay away from the sky when it comes to revs, the better off I should be.

you guys that say the 2.3 has a more usable power band no it doesn't...
2.0 big turbo rev to 9k or more so let's say you have power from 5k to 9k that's 4k of full power right
so the 2.3 drops that so your reving from 4.3-4.5k to 8 or 8500 right?? it just depends on what you want to do, if it's a daily driver do the 2.3 if your going to be a track junkie then the 2.0 is the way i would go but i'm a fan of making power up top... ask john shepard what motor he is running???

what you NEED to do is drop in a 4G64 block. it has a full 100mm stroke (vs 87 on 2.0L) & so u have ALL the torque, not 1/2 of it like using a stroker, or NONE like keeping the 2.0L. then all you do is slap on a Cosworth head & you will have a monster.................................
