Hks Cams?

just have a question... what's the difference between HKS 272 and 280 cams? which makes more power? where do they make their power? do they run rougher than stock?

Search. There have been quite few threads regarding this.

In a nutshell the 280's will make more power but, they make it higher up in RPM than the 272's. There are quite few people that say the 280's will idle fine but, more rough than stock.

Are you just looking at an exhaust cam since you have mivec on the intake?

to tell you the truth, i have no clue lol i was just wondering about the differences. i'm going to do alot of research on the subject before i decide if i'm even gonna get cams. so far the planned power mods are HKS Carbon Ti exhaust, HKS DP, high flow cat, Intake, Turbo Manifold, reflash and tune. i dont know if i want to mess with the internals of the engine at all. my goal with this car is to make it more responsive, and to make more useable power. i'm not concerned too much with super top end, or huge hp numbers. im gonna use it for autoX, and road racing, no drag strips anywhere in my future. those will be the only power adders. the rest of the mods will go to suspension. i've already got BC racing spec's on the way

I think if you go with a full exhaust, and a custom tune you will be pretty happy. It seems the 9's make about as much power without cams as an VIII will with all the same mods plus cams.
The 9 also makes more usable power thanks to Mivec.

then you should think about hks 264 which I have on my car
it will give you good midrange useable power (about 15whp gain)

He has an Evo 9 only the exhaust cam fits unless something has changed from when I stopped paying much attention to them.

Only the exhaust cam will fit. Per the TT post, they have a prototype IX intake cam that will be dyno'd today. They also said HKS has no immediate plans to release an intake cam (at least 12 months out at earliest).

A 272 exhaust cam looks to be my next mod.

The difference is the duration, one is 272 and one is 280.

THe 280's will make more top end and not lose low end spool regardless of what people here say as I can vouch for that after running it in my 2.3 stroker motor... I made 27 WHP more at the top end with a slight gain in spool up...
Of course this is only possible with the cams dialled in correctly and the 280's are to be dialled in totally different to the 272's...
I made 422 ATW on 22 psi...previously with the 272's set at -4/-1 I only managed 395 ATW on the same boost...

it all depends on if you have an ems or not, my buddy's with just an afc, idles pretty mean, if he had an aem ems in it, or any other one, he could get it to idle like stock, i have 280's in mine, and the ems, but i chose to have it idle with a lobe, sounds mean if you ask me.....and there is a BIG difference in idleling between 272's and 280's
