Boost gauge Must???
Boost gauge Must???
Yes, I've done searches. Most of guys have said that it is one of the first things to do if you start modding. But, here is my situation: I am just gonna get TBE w/ HFC, drop-in filter and ecu reflash. No mbc and nothing big. It will be a mildly modified car. Do you still think that I should go ahead and get the gauge for my IX? I am about to buy it. Advice needed!!!
Thanks,
Thanks,

Most performance FI cars have a boos gauge anyway. Persoanlly, I think it is the one glarring item that is missing from the otherwise performance-oriented interior.
That would be 2 big mistakes:
1) No boost gauge is a very bad idea.
2) No MBC on a IX will mean less power as the ECU works to lower boost when it sees additional airflow.
Get an MBC, and get a boost gauge. They are both very important on the IX.

boost gauge for sure, you can tell so much about your car by the readings it gives.... boosting too high or low or bad vacuum, you can see all of that. TBE is nice to have and i see your point about not needing it, but really, you do

Thanks for the good advices!!! I just placed my order.
Yep, I could see no reason not to get one.

This is something that I am still debating on. I am sure that MBC would be a nice addition with more power and flexibility, specifically holding a peak boost with less tapering to upper RPMs. But, if it is indeed that much better, then why didn't Mitsu build the car in this way at the first place? I also have learned that: with almost every modification you add to the car, there is a compromise being made. (i.e 'TBE & motor mount' in exchange for 'sound level & comfort', etc) I know that this isn't exactly a good example, but you get the idea. Can't there be any downsides to this nice feature such as MBC besides obvious warranty issues? Plus, doesn't ECU reflash already control the boost as one of its features? I am not trying to argue with anyone here. I am just trying to learn from some of veteran members here as I am pretty new to this wonderful and addictive 'Evo' world.
Thanks

this is a guess but Mitsu probably didnt put an MBC on the car for reliability reasons. They would rather have the ecu control boost and allow a taper in the higher rpm for reliability of their engines. this is just why i think they did it
