Hard Intercooler Piping

For those who have hard pipes, do you feel much of a difference in performance/spool, etc.? I'm considering this before i get tuned next, so any positive feedback would be helpful

Thanks

I have noticed a better spool and throttle response with the Helix IC pipes. Too bad I can't speak for the other brands because I have no personal experience with them.

Thanks,
Tom

I was recently told me a tuner they make a big difference. Considering a hard pipe kit as well but would appreciate more feedback.

I've got a IX if that matters on the subject.

Most peopele say the LICP makes the most difference in spool.

I'd hafta agree. I've done that mod on both of my Evo's. I've never doen the upper piping though. I considered it more bling that performance personally. I'm sure it helps some, with just a basic improvement in airflow.

But for a stock turbo, I'm curious how much it helps?

I'd guess another 20-30whp with a good tune.

AMS states an 8-10whp gain for their LICP and a 15-20whp gain for their FMIC. So, I'd expect similar results for you.

Anyways.... it doesn't really prove or disprove power for the upper pipes. Did Bushur recommend you do the upper pipes as well?

Dont bother getting an UICP unless its one like AMS or BR. They are the ones that require mini-batteries but they do what the IC piping should. SHORTEN it, LESS BENDS, and BIGGER. Most of the others are just a waste IMO. Any lower IC will do, and thats for sure a must.

Swapping out stock piping for all hard piping is a great mod (uicp and lower). I dont have a dyno to show results but the turbo spools up maybe 100-200 rpm quicker and throttle response is definitley better. I added my LICP pipe first which added some punch all over the rpm range. The UICP helped out with throttle response and even maybe helped spool up a bit. great mods swap all the pipes to hard pipes!

Sorry if I sound like a noob but when looking at these side by side I don't see the advantage of going with the aftermarket unit unless it is made of a different material (steel) and doesn't neck down. They both neck down at about the same point, and both are made of the same material. Heck if anything the stock unit looks better because it is one piece and will flow without the interuption of the joint. Someone care to elighten me?
