Question Engine Torque Dampeners?

Whats going on guys? I think this thread should be in here if not move it please. I tried searching for this but didn't come up with anything. But i was wondering if any of you guys are using engine torque dampeners such as this...

http://www.evomoto.com/product_info....roducts_id=576

or this...

I don't know how much they would benefit an AWD car, probably a FWD and RWD car more. But they seem like a pretty good idea and help out with less engine movement. Let me know what if any of you guys are using them and how you like them and if they are worth the money. Thanks

I don't like the way they cause the engine to twist off of it's natural axis. If you could secure dampners to either side of the engine, I'd feel more comfortable. It might eventually cause driveline issues.

The one I tried, a Weapon R, doubled the cabin noise - not much fun.

My brother had the Weapon R in his evo 8 and now on his evo 9. Biggest difference you will feel is in your shifter. It will no longer shift as notchy as without the dampener. Very smooth shifts. It may even help with shift lock out or mis-shifts. His biggest problem with the stock shift feel on the evo 9 was notchiness or almost a grinding sound going from 3rd to 4th. That went away with the dampener.

I thought the dampner just softened the engines ability to rock backward on the throttle. I wouldn't see how that would be off axis. Or do you mean because it's only dampening one side of the engine? I agree about the cabin noise though...it's almost like having stiff mounts.

When the engine revs it moves forward and backward. With a dampner, only one side moves so the movement is eliptical in a way. To me, it wasn't worth the risk - or the noise.

After I put in the 2.4l with the ats clutch I was getting a ton of engine movement so I installed the ingalls stiffy and I love it. I am also installing a set of the Buschur motor mounts for added stiffness when I put the motor back in. I understand how the stiffy would put strain on other components, but now the motor doesn't move at all under throttle on and off.

Just buy the Buschur motor mount bushings and they now have all 3 mounts availible. I know people have noticed a big improvment with just the front Buschur/Poweflex mount, and I'm thinking that all 3 might rattle your teeth out.

Start with the front, and go from there...save the xtra money towards other things

I've got the WR damper and love it. It helped in engine movement because my Injen upper intercooler and filter kit kept hitting the hood at WOT. I have a small wear on the inside of the hood. It also helped with shifting smoothly into 2nd gear and cornering. I can't believe it helped in cornering because after install, turning into a corner seemed more planted as before it seemed like it had more body roll. I love it. Best thing I did on my car.

Here's a 17 pg thread on the ingalls one and how to install it..

People love it and it is adjustable in relation to how much it dampens in contrast to mounts that are not adjustable and a pain to put in..

clik on the "click here" at the very bottem of the d.i.y to see what people are saying..

same here. when i watched my car on tt's dyno i was amazed at how much the engine torqued back on the pulls. the engine moved ALOT. so, i put on the weapon r dampner i had put on once, but didn't like the way the motor mount mount for the thing fit. i left it on for a week and took it off. the engine side mount of the dampner would flex a good bit, and the high pitched whine it transfered to the cabin was unacceptable to me. then i ordered a forge ft. mount bushing, installed it and like it so far (still transfers some noise and vibration to the cabin... but at least not that high pitched whine!). when i go to tt for tuning in april i will be able to see how much of the engine movement the bushing takes care of.

Just ordered the BR Mounts. like the idea of those alot more than the engine damper.

Thanks for the good info guys. Seems like its close to 50/50, people getting an engine torque dampener and people just getting motor mount inserts. But it does seem like you guys lean a little more towards the motor mount inserts. I will probably end up getting the front motor mount from Buschur or Powerflex and going from there.
