HKS 264 vs 272
ur right im just giving my experience and on the street its as im on the dyno very responsive low and very much a beast up top , peak tourqe is at 3248k so spool up is not an issue at all in fact it peak spooled 600 rpm sooner with out gears so with gears possibly u could dial in tourqe sooner

My "opinion" would be 280s on the stock turbo even at higher boost levels would be too much cam for the average guy.
I'm sure you can make it work but I dont know what gains could be had and I dont know what drivability would be lost. Personally I'm not sure why you would want to go that aggressive and stick with the stock turbo. If you are that hard core about cams, you might as well go to a bigger snail.

I've been running 264's for over a year and a half now and I love them! Smooth idle but you can tell the car has cams!
You can run 11's with these just make sure your tuned and have the right supporting mods! I am going larger just beacause i need to upgrade for my new setup! 264's or 272's either way you'll notice a much bigger difference from the stock cams! Good luck!!!!
I debated the 264s vs 272s for a while and ended up going with straight 272s with my 10.5 housing because I am more of a drag racer than anything else. I have heard great results with 272i/264e as well. Stock cams are staggered in this fashion fyi.

Is the idle going to be some what lumpy

264's are fine. There is probably some top end difference with the 272's, but the whp difference is not that much. On the stock turbo, I would say less than 10whp, and probably less than that unless you have alot of supporting mods.
I think I saw someone posted here they had 264's and had 490 whp, with an upgraded turbo.. So they definitely make power.

I dyno'd 272 vs STOCK cams yesterday. I picked up about 30WHP and 20TQ throughout the powerband with 272's set at 0/0. From the stock cams I lost no low end power, spool, or torque. Night and day difference from 5k and up.
I dicked with the cam gears trying -4/-1 and -3/-3 as well. The difference in peak power was minimal at about 5WHP. I stuck with the -3/-3 because I had about 5WHP more in the mid range but lost about 3WHP down low and up top as well. The only noticable change cam gears made was where peak torque hit. With the -3/-3 combo I was able to move peak TQ nearly 1k RPM sooner in the powerband.
When all is said and done, I would say get 272s and dont get cam gears unless you think having the ability to move 5WHP/TQ around is worth $200. As for the idle and cam noise....I didn't bleed the lifters and I have no noise. I bumped my idle up with a tad with the screw on the TB and it idles like a race car but hasn't stalled out. Personally I liked the sound of the car with the 0/0 setting best. Using the -3/-3 is sounds like is missing a tad, less consistant than the brrup brrup brrup at 0/0.
