AMS LICP Impressions

Before I went with this upgrade I read very mixed reviews about it. It seemed that while the car seemed to spool quicker, the power gain was missing.

MY IMPRESSIONS:

Please keep in mind that my impressions are based on my existing performance parts-please look below @ my signature.

I can't comment on how it was to install as I had AMS install this while my EXEDY Stage 1 Clutch & ACT Streetlite Flywheel were being installed.

TURBO RESPONSE

The car definately reacts quicker to the throttle-the turbo seems to come on boil much quicker and the overall response of the car is much better. It's really hard to believe it makes the improvement it does. I would purchase the AMS Lower IC pipe alone for the increase in response it gives over stock.

POWER GAIN

While the 5-8 horespower AMS claims may be hard to feel in the butt dyno in a 3200LB car w/ roughly 300hp already-it really does seem to make a difference. I really think the gains mentioned are there.

I give a big 2 thumbs up for this mod. This is a big bang for your buck in my book. There are definately other mods I would do before this (DYNOFLASH, TB Exhaust, MBC, maybe 10.5 HS (I don't know myself, I haven't tried one)) but I think where I am with modding my car it made a big difference to me. I was looking @ the 10.5 HS, but I decided to go w/ an EVO 9 turbo upgrade in the future instead.

Overall I am very pleased with the result and would recommend the AMS Lower IC pipe to anyone.

if you had it installed at the same time as your clutch/flywheel, i would say your quicker spooling is due to the lighter flywheel - not the licp

Please look at the above link. It's the 2nd post. The stock flywheel and ACT streetlite were each weighed at the time of installation by AMS. The difference between the 2 flywheels is only .6 lbs. I really don't think the quicker spooling is due to less than a pound difference -although it may have helped very slightly.

All I can say is that I am VERY happy w/ the results.

congrats!

i love my ams licp as well, though i don't know if i'd claim any SOTP gain in power that could be easily mistaken for improved throttle response

I do not know if the EXEDY Stage 1 clutch is lighter than the stocker or not. I would not imagine there being much of a difference either way-but I do not know for sure.

The weight of the clutch itsself is the same. If anything the Exedy Stage 1 might be a few ounces heavier being that the diaphram is thicker.
