Damn I think the mystery has just been solved.

Any new developments on whether or not the Quaife diff is causing oil leaks? My 03 GSR with Quaife is leaking at the passenger side axle seal.

I'm in the multiple axle seal replacement club (stock Evo IX). There is apparently some sort of pressure relief vent in the transmission. My dealer's theory is that the last seal blew due to a build-up of pressure in the case-- caused by a partially plugged vent. To be continued, I'm sure...

Hey all. My driver side axle is leaking from where it connects to the tranny. What is the part number for that oil sea? MR581295? or MD758763?

Bringing this back from the dead because I'm having the same issue now.

Leaking trans fluid out the drivers side axle seal. Replaced the seal once and it's still leaking slowly. Any updates?

I had the same issue, first make sure your axle cup is not bent (mine was and I fixed it with pliers). Next, make sure you have no debris on your axles or seals (wipe it off). Finally, make sure your axles are fully seated. Mine were not fully seated even though they looked like they were (there was still a small gap between the metal cup and the seal.

To make sure they seat fully, jack up your hubs and try to get them as level with the tranny/xfer case as you can and then push the axles in. I always just tried pushing them in with the hubs sagging way down and apparently that makes it very difficult to get the axles to fully seat.

When they are fully seated you will notice almost 0 clearance between the metal cup and the seal.

^^ im gonna try that sometime this week. the axle definately needs to get seated closer to the stub shaft, but i dont really feel comfortable hammering on the axle. my passenger side axle is snugged up much closer than the drivers side so i know thats my problem on the drivers side.

really dont wanna damage the axle trying to get it seated, but oh well

my garage isnt heated and i dont drive the car in the winter so its hard to get motivated

^^^Did you ever get around to trying this? I too, have this problem with the driver side axle. I just replaced the seal for the second time, and it started leaking the first time I drove the car for more than two miles, must like the last one. I did check the axle cup, and it looked OK, and I cleaned and greased the cup and the seal before I installed it.
I did notice that the driver axle was not seated as close to the tx casing as the passnger one is to the tc. The driver side has apprx 2-5 mm gap, while the passngr is nearly flush. I tried pushing it in more, but it seemed fully seated where it was. Im pretty sure it clicked, and it wouldnt slide back out.
I will try again with the axles leveled like the guy previously mentioned. I dont really wanna put the BFH on it, but I might have to.
I guess next step would be replaceing the axle?

BTW, as far as I know, i have stock axles/tx/tc

Trust me, leveling them out makes all the difference, you will be surprised how easy it will fully seat once you do that. Of course you can only level them out so much with the strut bar hanging down, but it still makes the difference.

Tried it, didnt move it any closer. Feels just like the passnger side. That and the other axle jobs Ive done tells me 99% its seated. Oh, and when I installed it in the first place, i put the tx side in first holding it head level, and made sure it clicked into place before i put the spindle in the hub-side.
Does anyone know if that cup on the end of the axle is pressed on, welded, or part of the shaft? Didnt think to check that closely when i had it out. Im just wonderin if the axle was dropped on its end by the previous owner and it pushed the cup in or something. It has leaked since the day i bought it.
Im probably way off the real problem, and probaly just need to go to bed
But seriously, this is bugging me. Ive got some neat parts sitting in a corner waitin to be put on, i just need to take care of this damn leak first!

And fre, out of curiosity, when yours wasnt fully seated, how big was the gap between the tx case and cup? and was the cup covering any of the seal at that time? Mine looks like its barely covering the outside part of the seal, just as a thought.
