Annoying IX problems

Since day one I suspected something was odd about my IX. I shrugged it off that I was used to cars in this power range, so I thought I would get a flash as a pick me up for it. Off to AMS... On the dyno , the car baselined a whopping 240'ish HP on a Dyno Jet. Martin was really suprised at how low my stock IX dyno'd. He fought it and squeezed 260/280 out of it in its current condition.

My problem besides the unusally low hp, is the delivery and the fact that over the course of the week the ecu seems to resort back to a "safe" map. The last 25% of my throttle is dead. I litterally will pass people on the freeway at 3/4 throttle because 100% actually yields less power and/or timing being pulled.

Off to AMS again, they did a check up on the motor, diagnostic, boost and compression/ leakdown. All were fine. They found nothing out of the ordinary. They did however find cracked spark plugs, but from what I gather that was not the actual problem.

-Car throws no codes
-Car pulls timing (i gather)
-Diminishing returns at 100% throttle opposed to lesser throttle.
-Ecu needs to be reset to get decent power/powerband back

It is starting to boil down to either a sensor issue or ecu issue, anyone have any guesses so I can throw them at the dealership ? Its not throwing a code, so I'm sure the tech's will be absolutly clueless.

I am not sure whats worse, throwing $1k at a evo and find it near stock #'s, or having to drive around in a perfectly fine pontiac g6 rental... oh the horror!

Are you going to a reputable gas station and putting premium in?

Yes, there are 3 major chains in Illinois - Shell, Amoco, and Mobil, all 93 oct. No offbrand gas stations for me. I have filled up at various places between my house and AMS (50 miles), no apparent change.

Two other members posted this same problem.

Everyone I thinkg we might have a problem with the IX.

First, we need all the info we can get about Dirk's, GSNT's and philthy IX's cars.

Next, we need someone that knows alot to tell us whats going on.

Heres the link to the other post.

First time I hear such a thing. Let us know if you find the culprit for your problems.

As you concluded in another thread GSNT was actually working on my ix and as far as I'm concerned those guys are as "In the know" as they come

But from what I authorized them to do, even they seems a bit stumped. We'll have to see after I pick it up tommarow, but I wont put too much hope on just the spark plugs.

Then again, going from my rental back to my evo, it will probably feel fixed for at least a little while lol

Hmm. I might have to go dyno my IX. I had previously owned an VIII. I'll take a trip to the same place I dyno'd my VIII stock, and see what I come up with.

The plugs stabilized it, and so far the ecu isn't taking power back BUT it is still underpowered. Most likely it wll be flashed back to stock and go to the dealer for them to find out its "fine" soon.

Funny, I have a IX and my dyno numbers seemed to be low for the mods AMS put in my numbers were 329whp and 309wtq after the flash at AMS.

And it also feels like there is more power at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle than 100% throttle.

Let me know if anyone finds out whats wrong with these cars.

Real nice numbers! Both jamevo8 and I have terrible #'s considering it was on dyno jet. I will be doing alot of work into this issue in the next week so hopefully I will have something positive to report soon for us "friday afternoon" cars.

im curious to know how you broke in your IX during the first 1000 miles

did you follow the instructions exactly (vary the RPMs, yada yada)

or did you do a hard break in?
