Well my clutch has the signs of it begining to slip, so iam gonna start saving up for a new clutch. Everyone locally says the ATS Twin Carbon Plate is what i should get, but iam curious to some other opinions..
What are the trade offs for the ATS clutch? Lockout issues? Chatter? What exactly?
My goals currently are around 350-400whp/tq. I currently only have 300whp/tq.
I go to the drag strip atleast 2times a month (Lately its been 4+ times a month), so i want something that will hold up at the drag strip, and be a daily driver.

ATS is really expensive but you get what you pay for and i've heard good things about it, if money isn't an issue go for it.

i run the cusco twin carbon/carbon and haven't had any problem for over 35k miles and i'm pushing 360+whp with regular visits to autox. you can find it at gruppe-s.com for about $1500 or so, cheapest i've seen it.

I just got that clutch but not installed yet. I have a buddy with it in his car and said he loves it not to much chatter but a whole lotta grabbbbbbbbbb The ATS is a very good clutch also, but like all other twin carb clutches they cost more than $1450. I think Carlos from Tucson has the Exedy twin metalic also, you should shoot him a PM [fromWRXtoEVO] Good Luck

I just installed the RPS dual carbon clutch about 300 miles ago and I am soooo pleased with it. It is similar to the stock clutch in stop and go trafffic, but it grabs like **** when you get it hot. Just my .02 cents though.

Cloudy,

As you can see, I gave you a courtesy phone call to get you in the right direction. The reason why I called you is because you seen to be a nice guy that has the same driving style as me: Daily driver and ocasionally taking the car to the track like once a month.

As I explained you over the phone, I spent a good 10 days doing some research on Evolutionm and also calling almost all the vendors and manufacturers.

Apparently RPS suppose to be the $hit, I was ready to get the full carbon version for around $2500 then I read a couple of guys that had issues with them that set me back. On the RPS the two things I heard was Yuroslav having it for only 1000 miles before it went bad, keep in mind this guy has more than 600whp though. On the other hand another guy complained that his car will move forward while the clutch pedal was completly depressed

The Cusco was on my plans , then I heard that the Cusco and the Exedy are indeed twins with minor cosmethics differences.

Then I almost got the HKS twin but again I read of a guy that had the diafragn pins mechanism disangaging(not broken but disengaging) that happened to him twice.

I was tempted to buy the ATS but to be honest, I haven't heard of that brand until recently. However it looks good.

The last thing to mention is that I read a lot of complains about triple disc overkilling the performance by grabbing too much. In other words, too much of a clutch for not much of horsepower/torque output.

Another guy complained that the triple clutch on his car was not properly installed and only one of the disc was engaging consequently wearing out the clutch rapidly.

As I told you before, I found the Exedy Twin disc to be a good compromise of price and performance. I am taking my car to the dealer in the morning and I will let you know of the price for the labor involve.

Take care !

Carlos

I know carlos, and i thank you for your time of sitting there and talking with me.
Its because of you iam going back and forth between the Exedy Heavy duty double plate, and the ATS Twin Carbon Plate...
I hear soooo many good things about the ATS from the people who do have it. And ive only heard a few bad things about the Exedy like it needing to cooldown cuase it locks you out.

Ive gotten about 10k miles on this clutch. Lots of hard driving, not as much hard driving as I would of liked since summer came, and its not even worth going to the track in the heat. But now that its starting to cool off, gonna be running it hard the track alot.
