two words
20G-9

seriously dude, $2500 gets you GT35 kits, tell them to go stuff it, and because the MBC has essentially voided your warranty with Mitsu, go ***** to the wall!

I'd personally go with the 20G-9

Mine is doing the same thing. I purchased the TME for $900 and am having it installed on Thursday. This is a proven turbo upgrade (especially for the 03 and 04, but still an upgrade for an 05). You can then sell your hotside.

Your best bet is to follow the one guy's idea of purchasing a used 03/04 turbo with the 9.8 hotside, then combine it with your 10.5 hotside, WHICH IS NOT DAMAGED, and then you have the exact same turbo you had before, but for only $250 spent, not including installation.

Whatever you do, make sure you get your turbo back, because I am skeptical on it being "blown." I would want to troubleshoot the bov, mbc, wastegate, and boost lines before believing what they said.

I'm also curious how you have a modded Evo without a boost gauge. Did this happen after you bought it and drove around a while, or was it like this when you bought it?

Lastly, WHY IN THE LIVING HELL DID YOU TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE A BOOST PROBLEM WITH THE MBC STILL INSTALLED????

Warr, very informative post per the norm, but no need to bash the guy. You live and learn.

At $2500 you do have a ton of options and you should def. research it a figure what's best for you. There are very knowledgeable members (like War) that can help you out. Call some shops to like AMS or Buschur and see what they have to say. Keep us updated.

Another idea. Can he send his stock turbo out to a re-builder (Blouch Turbo for example) and have it repaired with the titanium wheel?

$2500 includes labor?

just remember, if you get bigger turbo upgrade, you'll have hard time tuning that with the safc II.

Also, you'll need to buy supporting modes : fuel pump, injectors, intake, tbe, ems, etc.

I would go with a used stock turbo here for cheap. few people are selling them, because they upgraded.

I think War is on the right track along with the other guy. No offense to the original poster, but he doesnt seem too mechanically minded. I think your best bet is to purchase a 9.8 used and throw on your 10.5 hotside. Considering you live in San Diego, I can almost assure you that you can find SOMEONE on this board from the area who's experienced to help you do the install. Its really not terribly difficult, just take a little time. For $250 as the guy was asking for his turbo plus a 6pack and lunch, I bet you can find someone here to help you do the install and be right back to where you were prior to your problem. IMO, its really not wise to do the upgrade route with the inherent problems they all encounter if you are uneducated about it as you appear to be. I am not poking fun at you, I am merely trying to say that your best bet is sticking to stock type and not cough up big bucks on a GT30R or something similiar.

Nick

1. Who did your tuning?

2. What dealer did you go to?

3. Tuning Technologies is right up the road (I15), I'm sure that they can fix it and you know that they will do it right.

Wow, guys. This is awesome.

Yes gentlemen, it is true, I'm a total neophyte and not ashamed of it. In fact, my admittance to this is crucial to getting the right advice.

Macster- I don't want to bad mouth the guys that put the stuff in because it might not be them.

I went to Bob Baker in Carlsbad and they were actually very nice.

I think the guy ste it at 21 psi worst case.

The car is still running great and, as far as I can tell, boosting like normal--it just has the whistling noise for a short time when the propellers spool up. The sound lingers when I hold the throttle in position as it starts.

I talked to roadrace and they said they have a stock 05 turbo with 500 miles that they will sell me for $475 and install for me while getting the act clutch, springs, etc.

I think having a new stocker thrown in and getting a proper boost gauge.....and then learning about what the hell I'm doing is the best bet. What do you guys think of that plan?

BTW- I can't tell one end of a wrench from the other, but I can fix your slice!

It's a shame you don't live out east. I'd trade you wrenching to fix my slice
