Cat deletion pipe.

I am thinking of having one made up, it should only be ~$50 for one.. Anyone else interested? i am sure i could have a few made up.. I would not make money on this, just figure some others might be interested..

I cant see spending ~$190 for one..

If you are interested, i will need to know how many for a final price.. I am just having a local machine shop make mine up.

Anyway drop me an email if you want one. and since i am fairly new around here you can check me out on http://www.rx7club.com as zyounker also..

What about the 2nd Oxygen sensor taking a reading after the cat? I know in the Eclipse days you could take it out, plug the hole and tie the sensor under the car sniffing fresh air... I had a used cat from an Evo 7 lying around and gutted it for track use and tried it last night. After 10 mins. or so the Service Engine light came on. I haven't had a chance to hook up to the OBD connector and check the code yet, but my guess it is something to do with that 2nd sensor...

Yeah, you will get a CEL without a cat.. But you can wire in a resistor to make it trick the ECU..

I have a doc on how to do it to a DSM, and it is most likely the same.. but i am not sure yet..

Try this at your own risk:

I would possibly make a dummy or jumper harness so you dont have to cut the stock o2 harness too if people are interested and the connectors are avaliable.. I need to crawl underneath the car to check it out..

I dont really want to cut mine, so if i can get the connectors for a reasonable price i might make one..

check under the passenger seat - you should be able to find the connector there.

No, i know i can find the connector, but to buy new ones for a PNP harness..

so people dont have to hack their harness..

I thought Dave Buschur said that the evo 8 performs worse without the cat. I think it's in the Buschur tech forums.

Removing the cat will hurt low end torque, but it will help the top end where flow is more important.

IMHO, I would hold off pulling the cat until more is known about the 8's engine management. Will it be able to compensate for the extra airflow? Not to mention, can the wastegate still operate efficiently or will you get boost creep?

devilish: This isnt an RX7.. The ECU is much different it is MAF based versus the RX-7 MAP sensor base ECU.. it can compensate for a full exhaust.. And the Big 16G is a very common turbo on DSMs and has been on the evo for a long time.. the evo8 is very similar to the evo7. this really isn't new territory.

And bucher said he lost hp, but gained torque, which was odd. but he also did not have a CEL fix in, and thought the ODBII crap was messing with the maps..

And for those that worry, i have an FJO wideband, and will be monitoring A/F ratios..

I know. Still, I'm just saying what if the ECU can't compensate?Pulling the cat increases flow dramatically. As long as your monitoring A/F ratios, great. All you need though is someone in CA with 91 gas going full 3" exhaust, turning up the boost, etc. and *pop*. While the EVO is proven in other markets, I have my reservations about the US version still in terms of ease of engine upgrades. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the car. There's just still a lot we don't know. (And yes, I've been around the 4g community awhile.)

This is not for people who dont know what you are doing, although i will let anyone know if there is a problem.. but it should not have any...
