Pardon the the question but as I am still just learning about engines and the evo aftermarket I must ask aside from the obvious whats the difference between a turbo back and a cat back exhaust. Also which one is recomended for the EVO 8 and what are the hp gains with each set up.

Simple, the name implies what each is. turbo back usually means a complete system from the 02 housing, downpipe, cat/test-pipe to the rear muffler. cat back is just from the cat. converter to the rear muffler.

 

As the man says turbo back is from the turbo, cat back is from the cat back. The question is which way to go.... generally, a turbo back system will give you more power. In this case, I think that I'll go with the Ralliart "sports muffler kit". I think it is from the cat back. I think it will make the car run better but I don't know how much better... The main reason I'd go this route is because it comes from Ralliart (Mitsubishi factory designed part)

 

Don't forget the down pipe...major gains!

 

The turbo-back exhaust already contains the down pipe
