BOV question, not stupid noob question?
BOV question, not stupid noob question?
I'm going to be running an ECU+ in my evo with a 3.5 gm maf in blow through mode. So i'll be running a VTA bov, qhich VTA bov is the most quiet, i don't want some stupid wossh sound every time i shift.
There is no such thing as "most quiet" when using a blowthrough MAF and VTA BOV. It's going to be loud as hell like a race car. I don't think you can recirculate at all, but that's beyond my level of knowledge.
uhm... the stock valve is the most quiet, it will give you a pshh rather htan a CHIRP sound.
there is in fact a way to run recirv even though you're running blow through and that's the exact same way as you were running it before going blow through. waht you'll need to do most likely is if the bov location has changed you go to your local autoparts store nad browse the radiator hoses, you find one that will connect the bov to the intake pipe or wherever you have an open port for recircing.
also you should not use a 3.5" maf in blow through unless you have 3.5 or 3" pipes, the rapid expansion and compression of the air is gonna hurt your flow, you'd get much better results in blow through with a more uniform diameter.
if you are going draw through, by all means... use the biggest you can fit and translate.
proper thread, good question.

^Good advice on the plumbing diameter.
I wouldn't necesarily be concerned with which is the quietest, they are all loud. I would be concerned with which is the LEAST annoying...so that rules out the GFB's, TurboXS RFLs, SSQVs, GREDDY type s's, and the like.
I would go with a Tial or forge, they sound decent, and don't always annoy the hell out of you.

well, for my entire tube setup, i was going to do full 3" custom tubing as long as the neisi intercooler has outlets and inlets that size, and this would be a entire custom tubing system and i would make so i can do w/e is necessary to make this a recir. or w/e. So far the most i can live with is a smooth pshh sound and a very quiet one at that. I hate those annoying bovs that chirp or have the loud pshh, it will annoy the hell out of me and my neighborhood. I think i might do a recir. from the valve to the intake pipe, reminder that the intake pipe will be custom and also have a cone filter on there so i'm assuming it will be somewhat loud. I'll look into the Tial or forge.

It sounds as though your setup will be forever evolving, if thats the case than the Tial would be best suited for you as Its been proven time and time again with higher boost applications (AMS with chris and their shop car, Buschur with his shop cars, etc).
But if you're looking to Recirc then you might want to check out a Forge DV, they hold really well and alot of the porsche guys swear by them.

if you are going fully custom i suggest hte 1g bov with the dejon tools leak stop kit. this is the ultimate bov, will hold all the boost and vent as easy as pie.
i run it uncrushed so i get a lil flutter, classically the dsmers have had some flutter too, this is due to the nature of the pnumatic switch and pnumatic assist port. however if the valve is crushed you can get it to flutter less.
if you're getting a cone type filer then i suggest one of a few things for quietness.
recirc as far away from the cone filter as possible. this may give you an oppotunity to make a cold air intake! also if you can... use an air box of some sort, without an open element, or shroud your cold air intake.
also keep in mind that the 1g is flanged... not the hose clamp type valve we normally see.

The APS BOV is "dual-vent," meaning that at low-boost situations around town, the air is recirculated.. but at high-boost situations it is VTA. I have zero issues with mine and the ECU+. http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/us...o/bov/blow.htm
