First Oil Change?
First Oil Change?
Okay, I'm trying to find out what the general consensus is as to when to do your first oil change on the EVO VIII? I've heard people say that the first should be done at around 1000 miles. On the other hand, I've heard people say that you should really let your engine break in and not do an oil change until it's time, ie 3750 or 5000 miles.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks in advance!
The first oil change should be don inbetween 500 and a 1000 miles becouse you should get what ever might be in the motor out and about 500 miles is good amount of time to get the stragelers from the factory
If the oil really needed to be changed 500 miles in then Mitsubishi would've written that in the manual. That said, I don't think it will hurt the car to change the oil earlier either. Some cars supposedly ship with an additive to aid in break-in, requiring a very long time until the first oil change (S2000 at like 7500 miles). But since Mitsubishi doesn't mention anything like that, changing the oil early shouldn't be a problem.
1700 miles on same oil. I talked to the Ralliart techa nd he said it's utter nonsense to change the oil at 500 or even 1000. He said once you take the car off the lot, dont bring it back untill it has 5000 miles on it, or if something were to break of course. I kinda looked at him like he was kidding, but he wasn't. Just chcek the level.

Heck, if anything, the service intervals are probably in the cautious and conservative side. I plan to check the oil and take it in a the suggested intervals.....
My oil was filthy at 600 miles.....I have now done 2000 miles after the oil change I did at the end of break in.....and the oil is still a lot cleaner than the first oil from the factory....having done nearly three times the miles.....I can sleep at night knowing my turbo life is not being jeopordized by crud running around my brand new impeller shaft
I have 750 miles on mine. I noticed the oil level is 1/4 inch above the top mark. The owners manual indicates "Overfilling crankcase will cause oil areration and loss of oil pressure...." Should I be concerned? Should I drain some? I have heard other this is so for other owners and Mitsu adds extra oil at the factory? Thoughts? BTW the oil looks light, clean, and in good condition.

Only the 0-1000km has the special additive in it though. 1001-10,000km is just regular mineral oil.

Do a search for "oil change"

I failed to discern that language in my warranty manual - in fact, i recall wording pronouncing maintanence to be the responsibility of the owner. Whats the deal here?

You do not need to change the oil until the first scheduled maintenance. But I would do that at 3750 or whatever it says.
It is the oil filters job to trap the particles that may be in the oil from break in and the factory. Plus it is not like the build these things in the garage, they have clean areas where the build motors and you won't find much contamination from the factory. Personally I will change at 3000 but I don't drive a lot so that is about 3 month mark for me.
