Evo 8 Stage IV IX20G vs. Evo IX Stage I = both are 11.6 ?

Iinteresting results this week

I think looking at these two cars really tells the tale of the 8 vs the IX and what the MIVEC and ECU improvements of the IX do for the car

Both these cars have Dyno Flash dual stage ecu flashes with nearly identical tuning parameters

First here is the IX of member Most Wanted - road tuned Dyno Flash who has a full Buschur Stage I kit and walbro fuel pump
60' 1.610
330 4.765
1/8 7.418
mph 90.58
1000 9.703
1/4 11.637
mph 114.28

Here is another Dyno Flashed tuned car this time a Evo 8 with much more extensive modifications

Full 3" buschur exhaust
Buschur race fron mount
20g-9-5 turbo
680 injectors
fuel pump
280 cams
Dynoflashed from Big Al
stock motor and head no port work
Tires-Michelen Pilots

It is very interesting to see that even with the IX20g the IX is STILL making amazing power with far less mods than the 8

I attribute the IX's huge response to mods to the MIVEC and the enhanced ecu which is vastly more powerful than the old evo 8 ecu

Also the IX has enhanced coolant passages in the head and block with afford better head cooling and the ability to run more timing

Interesting comparision

On a seperate note - its been quite a month with my product as 11 second cars appear to be becomming the norm

the last model before a revamp is always the best to get. this same scenario occured with the '99 M3. it had the fewest issues, the most features, & proved to be the most reliable. Al is doing it again with his R&D...

There are also some gearing changes in 4th gear which may factor into some of the variances we see in the time slips

I personally can not wait for Buschur to release the IX stage IV

One more notem the IX really drops major boost up top due to the sudden MIVEC ramp down as the revs rise

A Apexi AVCR would be a nice mod to help sustain the boost on the IX on the high rpms and would help it really walk a 8

The IX's loose at leats 5 psi of boost as they get to red line

Very interesting results.. in my opinion you can still be almost as fast without the fuel pump, injectors and intercooler though. I am not saying that they are not helping but I am aware people on this forum ran their cars also very fast without FMIC, Injectors and fuel pump.

Botton line, it seems undeniable that the Evo 9 when modded is absolutely amazingly fast.

my .2c

Isn't it quite dangerous to do any modding without an upgraded fuel pump? I've been doing lots of reading and it seems almost every tuner says a better fuel pump is a necessity even with Stage 1.

No, not every tuner says that. It's necessary on the VIII, but not the IX.

It's funny how you say 'every tuner.' I had someone claim recently that "no tuner" requires a fuel pump, so why does Dynoflash. Funny where people come up with these generalizations out of thin air...

I suggest a fuel pump on all evos with a boost controller - its just plain common sense to spend $90 to protect your engine

Definately the fuel pump is highly recommendable. The best example is perhaps my own car, I was custom tune by Al and I was peaking mid 20s psis before I put the alcohol kit and I never had a single issue of detonation at all.

Keep in mind that I very well know what detonation is, I put a hole in a piston and I also melted again a piston in two 4G63s in the past by not adding fuel and lack of proper tuning.

I wouldn't play with fire, get a fuel pump. Al analogy is very good, you can buy a $30000 car but can't buy a fuel pump?

With that trap speed of the Evo8, it appears to have a bit more potential at producing a lower ET.

ok even though the IX was faster, the VIII traped 4mph faster then the IX. so i think the VIII with a better run will take that IX.
