Stay stock plugs or go 1 or 2 step colder?

I searched some and a lot of guys gave a bunch of different responses. But its time for a plug change. Mods are

apexi intake, 3in downpipe, no cat, 3in catback, bov, boost controller, clutch, flash. Hittin around 24-25 psi. So which Iridiums should i go with 1 or 2 step. I almost wana say 2 considering im plannin on runnin a little bit more boost. Help would be awesome thanks

You need to remain at the stock heat range. 2 ranges colder would be absolutely absurd. You don't use 9s unless you're making like 600whp on a GT35 or something. You also don't need 8s, because your mods are very basic. You don't even have cams.

The other thing is...why in the world are you running 24-25psi? Do you run race gas daily? If so, then I could see maybe using NGK BR8ES, but if you're on pump gas, you need to turn that boost down to 22 max, and then get some NGK BPR7ES gapped to .026. 7 is the stock heat range...

got ya i was hoping you would comment on this since your good with advice. And no i dont run race gas daily i have a few times. When we logged my car last we was hittin around 24psi. And the stock boost gauge (who knows how accurate it is) is reading 24-25psi.

So your recommend gettin the Iridium BPR6EIX which say are for the mostly stock Evos?

I agree wit Warrtalon, however I dont think it would be crazy getting 7's... 8's are too cold! But yeah, the man knows what he's talking about.

Ya we can eliminate the 8's now lol. Im just being sure to get the right ones so it wont hurt the performance

If you KNOW your boost is set at 24psi, then why haven't you turned it down???? Turn that junk down, man. What are you thinking!

Um, read what I said again very closely...VERY CLOSELY:

BPR6EIX = 6 heat range = stock DSM plugs

I said to get BPR7ES for your car, because 7 is the stock Evo heat range.

If your running the stock iridium plugs you can probably get away with 7-10k before changing them, depending on their condition and how your car's running. If your using copper plugs I would change them at every oil change.

You can go much farther than 7-10k on the stock Iridiums. They should last a LONG TIME (60k maybe?) if you don't run race gas or tune conditions that foul them.

Yes, BPR7ES is copper...BPR7EIX is Iridium

S = copper
IX - Iridium

Don't ask me why.

Thanks for the help man. Got me some new ones in now car defs picks up better in the rpms compared to the plugs that were in it they looked horrible!

Are BPR7ES's the best choice for an evo with 264 cams (and supporting mods)?

Currently am running BR8ES's, which run well, but would like to get a bit more longevity if I can (and has little to no effect on performance).


What's the estimated mileage I can expect on the 7 and 8 heat range plugs (copper)? What kind of mileage can I expect on iridium versions of these?

Yes, I'd say that BPR7ES's are still optimum for your setup, but BR8ES is good, too.

I think the hotter range will last longer, because they don't require you to be boosting and driving hard all the time. Get a set and try them. Coppers will only last 5-10k miles depending on your car and how you drive, but Iridiums can last 30k or even longer. They are supposed to last a long time, so if you aren't using race gas with any regularity and don't race, then you could give the BPR7EIX a shot.
