emissions and cams....

Anyone with 272's have any issues passing emissions?

Here in town, they check for CEL's, cats, and possibly do a sniffer. Because of my cams, my car is throwing a random misfire code at idle and I dont' have a cat. I can put that back on with no problme though. My main concern is making sure I do everything to get the cams to pass.....if that is possible.

I've been meaning to get my car retuned since my 272's were installed (still running the flash from my 264's) but I've been busy everytime Al comes close. I know he can smooth the idle out with a reflash, but does that help with emissions? If the idle gets smoothed out then it shouldn't throw the misfire code.

Anyone have any ideas on passing or have any problems with passing?

Did you do a "fix" when you took your cat off, so that it does not throw the Cel light? or did the cel light come on after you put in the cams? They only hook up to the OBDII port here so I didn't have to worry about the sniffer test.

I have a 02 sim so that isn't the problem. My car throws the code if my car idles for long periods of time. I thought it was the ddreaded misfire code the 03-04's sometime has, but after numerous times of reseting it, it's surely the cams setting it off.

I'm not sure what they do as far as testing yet. I guess I could go by and ask to make sure I have it fixed before hand. I know my cat will have to go back on. I'm just trying to figure out if it is possible to pass the sniffer with 272's if that is what they do and to see how to get the car to stop throwing that code.

I passed emissions with the 272s and a turbotrix flash. My car was getting that code for a while also, but I had some wires connected wrong. Have you considered just removing the cams?

Installing a set of cam gears and dialing in settings favorable to an emissions test should significantly improve the results. As to whether or not this is needed probably depends on the stringency of the local regs.

What wires did you have connected wrong? I just had the cams installed 2-3 months ago. Taking them out is the last option.

What did you emissions consist of? Did they just check for CEL's or did they put the sniffer on as well? You running stock cam gears?

I get the same code after the cam install. I noticed a dramatic decrease in the frequency of it showing up when I switched to a set of BR8ES. I've tried BPR7ES, BR7ES, and stock plugs gapped at .028 and they all throw the P0300 code MUCH more frequently than the BR8ES. Ill get a few tanks of gas before it shows up and then it'll disappear on its own ~150 miles later like clockwork. Im sure the TT has a hand in this.

Hey Corey, I switched from AEM with map sensor back to the stock maf, so my situation is somewhat different. I got the code sometimes twice a day, took it to Mitsu to get the reflash, etc, but nothing helped. Turned out one of my wires I had used to switch to map had a poor connection. Here in GA they plug it in the obd 2 port and run a check for systems readiness, cels, etc. I have stock cam gears with hks 272s. Have you had the ecu reflash from mitsu?

I haven't had the reflash from Mitsu yet. I've been putting it off cause I was planning on getting a few more go fast parts and just getting retuned, but I haven't had the time when Al comes remotley close to me. If Miitsu does the flash, I understood that you loose your custom tune....right? If so, I don't want to do that right now.

I'm running the BR7ES's in my car right now. I might try to get the BP8ES's or the BPR8ES's and see what they'll do. I don't think this problem is something Mitsu's flash can fix though. I think this has everything to do with the cams and the idle. I can have it cleared out and if my car sits and idles for a certain period of time it will light up.

I know one time after I had the code cleared, it was almost 4-5 days before it came back on cause while sitting at a light or in a drive thru, I'd blip the gas just a little to get the RPM to come up. It just so happened that I forgot to do it that day while waiting for my Big Mac while chatting to a buddy on my cell phone.
