RM01A Review - NOW with Dyno #s

Just thought I would share my impressions of the Fubijitsu RM01A catback that was installed yesterday. For my application this catback has met of all my needs. When I bought my 05 MR it had a Magnaflow Ti installed, stock dp and cat. The car was very loud at all rpms and very droning on the highway. It also had an angled exit was which leaving carbon on my white bumper. Here in Mass. alter exhaust violations are becoming a real problem. The Magnaflow made great power, by butt dyno, and is nice piece if you don't care about noise levels.

I installed a HKS dp, 3" HFC, and the RM01A. I can hear my motor at idle now. No droning, but still sounds deep and sounds mean at WOT. The car now pulls harder up top to redline, probably from having a full TBE. I would guess the Magnaflow makes more power, and loud exhausts give you the impression of speed. But now I can get on it without attracting the attention of everyone in a 5 block radius. The RM01A does neck down under 3" at the resonators, so this is not a true 3" catback, I would consider it a 2.5". For a true daily driver I think it's a great choice, especially for those older Evo owners like me, 35 with 2 kids.

Fitment on the 8 is definitely short and does not clear the bumper so a heat shield is a must. But with that it looks stealthy tucked under. The muffler is polished so it could be painted black for ultimate stealth, not sure if its really nec. to avoid police attention.

[Edit ]
I'm going to paint the rear facing section of the muffler black.

Build quality is very impressive and when drilling the 02 bung it was obvious it was thick high quality stainless (I don't know my SS types).

Overall the RM01A is not going to make you the most power, but it still makes more power then stock but looks and sounds very close to stock. I did tons of research before I bought this catback and read lots of posts both for and against, so I tried to answer most of the question I had back then. If want to know any more just ask, but I haven't been to a dyno.

[Edit]
OK, so I just got back from a custom dynoflash and my car made 301hp/310tq with this catback on a dynojet on 93oct. For these minimal mods I'm happy with the power I made and I'm still almost quiet as stock

Mods are:
HKS dp
UR 3" hfc
RM01A
Buschur Air filter
Forge MBC 21psi
255lph

[Going to work on a video next week]
I could probably make a short video if anyone would want to see one.

you're the guy I saw leaving DSG on Saturday...I was in the electric blue evo that was going to block you in

Saw your Magnaflow Ti exhaust...looked awesome, couldn't believe how light it was! Glad you like the Fujitsubo better...I have my fingers crossed on the exhaust issues...mine is one of the loudest ones I've heard on an Evo

Hey, what's up. Yeah, I noticed yours was pretty loud as I was noticing that mine was pretty quiet. I hope my Ti ends up on their race car, then at least some of my car will have gone fast.

BTW, I'm heading to down to CT tomorrow morning to get dyno'd and flashed.

I trying to decide if I want to get cams, or wait.

Must wait, Must wait.......need cams.....must wait....

For me, it's better. But I think it depends on your needs. 10 years ago I would have wanted the Ti and full 3" no cat.

Do you have a stock dp and cat? I would think with a TP it would sound lounder at WOT. Personally I like the way my car wounds at WOT, a mixture or intake, turbo spool, exhaust and rushing wind....
