Spark Plugs and Wires??
Spark Plugs and Wires??
Has anyone changed there plugs and wires from the stock ones? I was having a misfire on one of the cylinders and had to change the plug and wire for that cylinder. I am looking at changing all four now. What do you guys or gals recommend for better performance as far as the plugs and wires go??
There is no better performance to be had from plugs and wires unless your plugs are fouled or unless you have gotten to a boost level that blows out the spark on your stock-like plugs. A misfire would not have caused you to replace the plug AND wire. You don't normally do just one at a time - that's strange.
For your mods, you are fine with the stock heat range plugs - NGK BPR7ES gapped to .026.

I have been running my Innovate unit on my EVO after I installed a TBE and drop in k&n and before I got a tune. I invariably get spikes in the AFR on the logs. Even after the tune I still got the spikes in the AFR. The car runs great, but you will get those spikes indicating a blown spark. There is no misfire, just one data point of a blown spark.
I have tried several options to combat this problem:
1. I changed my plugs to the copper BPR7ES and gapped them to 0.025. Someone on the Innovate forums told me that copper plugs will help eliminate the incidence of blown sparks. It did help a bit, but blown sparks are still there.
2. I just installed the Sunpro Ignition booster unit. Gruppe-S tested it and they gained about 8 hp from it. I am hoping that this unit will help me eliminate that nasty spike in the AFR. So far I have not doen any test runs and the only advantage that I noticed is a smoother idle.
3. My final option is to get the new Buschur coil on plug unit with their booster unit. But that is a $750 unit.
Your best bet is the stock wires and the copper plugs. Change them regularly and you can avoid the misfires. Mitsu cheaped out when it came to the ignition. Instead of having individual coils on plugs they put one coil for two plugs. This is just silly on a car that runs 20.5 psi stock boost.
Unless the Ralliart is lying you get 6hp by changing from the stock to the Ralliart spark plug wires.
After I installed the Ralliart wires I felt a good improvement = engine reving faster.
Regarding the spark plugs, as our friend mentioned the stock plugs seem to be the best. I will come back to the stock spark plugs next oil change.

A lot of people have switched to the copper plugs because they are cheap and they plan on replacing them frequently. I'm runnig the Denso iriduims and have had no issues with them at all.
Plug wires= stock or Ralliart seem to be pretty much the best available for the factory ignition.
OT: Has anybody had much success with the MSD DIS2? I searched a little and didn't find that much info.
