I open the pipe when my wife starts nagging, it kind of equalized the drone.

QTP makes good products. Thats kinda funny looking though having two exhausts, but cool at the same time, regular single exit in the back and a side exit like a lot of the SRT4s are running. (sorry to compare your exhaust to an SRT4, haha). I designed a custom DP for my GSX that had a QTP cutout in it, since they didn't make one at the time for the GSX, and i'm pretty sure still don't make one. Before the QTP cutout DP i had stock 02 housing and the Apexi N1 downpipe, which is like 2.25-2.5 inches to the flex section and 3 from there eliminating the cat. I liked it but it was too loud. So when my friend and i decided to weld this DP up i put an Evo3 02 housing on and then he welded up a custom full 3 inch DP with a Catco 3 inch HFC and i had the cutout right before the cat. I didn't have the side pipe like you so i just had mine dumping right where it opened. But the HFC helped quiet it up a bit and then when i wanted to i could flip a switch and go from full car exhaust with a cat to about 3 ft of exhaust and NO back pressure. Spool up was definitely a lot quicker, i never got to get it on the dyno but my butt dyno measured a good 15whp at least, without any tuning and just opening it up. It was funny going passed people with a semi quiet car with a cat and then flip a switch and it would sound like a nasty V8 rippin past. I def enjoyed the cutout, instant power at a flip of a switch.

Question for you, since there wasn't a lot of room under the car when we designed mine the cutout hung a little low and i had to actually raise my GSX up a little bit so it wouldn't hit on speed bumps, but how you have yours setup, does it hang a little lower then the rest of the exhaust and do you ever hit it on speed bumps or anything like that? I'm guessing if you did hit it on a speed bump at all you raised your car up, but i was just wondering if there was any height issues with it, since i had some on my GSX. Later

Good questions. I have coilovers on my car, and it is significantly LOWER than stock, and I drive around the speedbumps, as I will usually hit my CF splitter before I hit my exhaust. I never had a scraping issue day to day driving, but it I have 4 adults in the car when I back out of the driveway, I can hear a "slight" scrape. Other than that, I have no issues with the scraping. I scrape/tear/ have more issues with the splitter than anything.

I remember david buschur saying once that he gained 0 whp or tq from dropping his exhaust at the downpipe.....it just flows that well..

would this work better if instead of the bends, you had just a straight pipe going to the side right before the back wheel? Im thinking of putting my stock exhaust back on and doing t his.

Nice work. Do you find that it leaks at all when the exhaust is cold?

That's strange you have zero gains with the cut-out open. I guess you exhaust is already efficent enough.

On my other car there is a DEFFINATE increase in power with the cut-out open. I also get a boost spike when its open. On the street I usually run off the WG spring @ 13psi but when the cut-out is open the WG can't keep up and I see 16psi.

A friend of mine uses a side pipe when he tracks his WRX but instead of a fancy controlled valve, we just take 10 minutes to drop the 3" custom exhaust off his car including the high flow cat and bolt up a custom made side pipe in its place. He hasn't dyno'ed it but the guy who made it has dynoed his EVO with a similar setup and gained a few whp. Its all mandrel bent though and doesn't have a splitter like you have.

If you guys have broadband, here is a video of his first time tracking the car @ spring mountain. Warning, its 340mb. Right click and 'save as'. http://www.kalionzes.com/video/SpringMountain.0001.mpg

here it is when we put it on @ spring mountain. It was insanely loud. The car has about 330whp.

Hey, at least you can shatter the ear drums of people along side the car for fun. You should angle that thing up so it points at the windows of SUV's
