You didnt do the same mod. He installed a straight up 16g IX turbo...you did a 20g IX turbo. Of course its going to spool a little later...its a bigger compressor wheel.

The spool up is a slower then the VIII turbo but once it hits look out. This car pulls like a motherf**ker!!! Drag times coming soon.

I figured since I have typical bolt-ons like most people this might be of interest.
So the turbo did make a big difference huh?

the stock evo 9 turbo has larger compressor housing than the stock evo 8 turbo.

I think its in your head that its faster . I highly doubt any significant gain going from a difference in compressor housings. Lets be serious here and calm the hype.

you know the ONLY way we will know if the power gains on the IX is the turbo or not? By taking a modified IX and swapping an 05 turbo on it, then we will know for sure! If the car still makes crazy power with the 05 turbo in place then its definitely not the turbo.....

Hopefully someone with a IX here would be willing to volunteer to do this testing

Like I said, lets be serious, or should I say logical. Both Buschur and Dynoflash both said the IX compressor housing is not the reason for the IX making the power it does. If anyone thinks it is, your fooling yourself.

It gained power but they also went from a 9.8 to a 10.5/IX turbo and they also used an ECUTEK tune. It was not a straight swap.

The only absolute way we are going to see if there is a gain worth doing is if someone with their 10.5-8 turbo does a direct swap for a IX turbo, until then, all of this hype is just that... hype. Even if the IX did add 10whp lets say, is that 10whp worth $500-800?

I meant taking a IX Evo and putting a 05 turbo on it, then we can see the real difference!

i think its worth it. because most of our customers use their evo for daily driving with 91 pump gas here. (gas is very expensive in cali .. $3.99/gal!! every 1hp count!) Not everyone wants to run GT turbo kits w/ gas prices like this..

but if you are only concerning about brute power, these stock sized turbo and slightly modified turbos are not for you. There are other choices such as 50trim, GT30, GT35R and etc.

I wouldnt call 10whp for $500-800 a value. If 91 is the problem the real way to deal with it is with alcohol injection which is techincally cheaper.

I will be going to the track this Sunday. I also had the wastegate arm to loose so thats why the spool was a little slower. I tightened it and it now spools at 3400-3500 rpm and kicks hard. I don't care about value to hp. I wanted to try this to see if it works. Maybe it's all in my head but we all will know for sure on Sunday. Another thing to remember is I don't have a custom tune...yet. I'm riding around on a base flash for 272's and I now have 280's and a different turbo.

I probably won't dyno the car because dyno #'s don't mean s**t. The trap will tell me every thing I need to know.
