High frequency noise that increases sequentially in 1st gear as rpms increase or decrease. Only when in 1st gear and moving. Recently had transfercase rebuild and exedy twin plate hd. any ideas? Car drives fine, just noise in 1st.

 

My car has always had a 1st gear whine since day one. In fact, every 03 I've ever ridden in or driven has as well.

 

Mines got it too, I don't think its anything to worry about.

 

1 st gear is straight cut. It should be loud. Like F1 cars. When you have straight cut gears you basically have a strong gear, but you'll get that whining noise.

 

THANKS! I've been a bit worried since I just had a huge repair bill for repairing my transfer case, and them some. Just got the car back after being down for a month, still getting used to everything again.

 

I have it to.....kinda like a whirrrrrrrr sound

 

I wish all of them were straight cut.

 

Yeah this is true...Its the whining in the higher gears thats basically the dreaded T-case whine.

 

If there is damage to the teeth, wont it make that high pitched whinning noise too?

 

mine has always done it since new and i have a 2005 model

 

mine does it too in first, but what bothers me is noise the transmission makes during deceleration. It is also a whinning mechanical sound. Anyone else has that?

mines whines a little in 2nd gear but goes away around 3900 rpms

 

what about noise in fifth gear at 60mph

 

mine does it in every gear now it was just in first gear but i think it is the transfer case going out

 

If it does it in other gears, its probally the T-case.
