Shifting into 3rd gear?

Hey i just was wondering if anyone else has had the problem of shifting into 3rd gear. Im getting it in the gates, but then it just revs to like 8000rpm and 3rd gear never goes. Makes a horrible grind . Is it from the double synchros in 3rd, cause I shift pretty fast. Thanks.

Similar prob here. Just before shifting into 3rd I'm hitting something but no grinding or anything else and it only does it
when I'm not paying attention. I am just happy it shifts sooooooooooo much better than my wrx!!!

No problems in the Evo itself when I shift... only that when I was still adjusting to the seats and the stiff clutch and such, sometimes when I'm not concentrating, I sometimes don't depress the clutch enough when I shift and causes the grinding... and yes... it does seem to happen when I shift to 3rd gear. I don't do it anymore tho'... got used to the clutch and shifter after 2-3 days. I think you're just not pressing the clutch enough when you shift. Let me know if this was the problem...

I am having the same problem.
But my car has other problems too, first time i took it to the strip the shifter linkage came apart and the tranny was then stuck in second. It was no big deal took 2 minutes to fix(and most of that was finding tools)

The problem with going into third is probably just driver error, but I admit it is annoying when I pull a 1.86 60' time(pretty amazing at 6000' evelvation) but the run gets screwed by missing a gear

When shifting into 3rd, are you guys "palming it ?" or do you grab the shifter on the top and shift.
If I grab the shifter on the top and try and shift fast I can sometimes miss 3rd. But if I plam shift ( Gear knob is in plam of hand so that you push the gear stick away from you as well as forward ) I never miss 3rd.

I don't think it makes a difference, atleast under my scenario. Now I have to shift very slowly....

BTW, do you have a zx6r ? great bike ;P

Yep, lovely bikes. Not ridden it for a while though, wife freaks out. For some reason she thinks the Evo is safer

Are you a gaijin in Tokyo or Nihonjin. I spent a few years over in Japan and had a 250 kawasaki at the time so I could dart through all the traffic with the mopeds

i got problem with 3rd gear, before engine and trans was out it was just grinding, now i put everything back together, steel clutch hose, brand new stiff shifter bushings, fresh MT90 and....almost impossible to put 3rd in, i have to look for it, sometimes 1st another 5th is gonna get in, is there any chance to save it by changing into heavier oil or i have to replace synchros??

Changing the oil won't "save" anything at this point, kind of like putting a band-aid on a broken leg synchro time.

i grind into 3rd on upshifts, but not downshifts. if i slow down the process it won't grind, buttttt that kind of defeats the purpose of a track car.
