tapping noise from engine after 1/4 run

I'm still reading previous threads so i know about the searching/repost ordeal. However, while i'm reading, i would like some feedback on what could be the problem.

I've run my car several times at a 1/8 track and several times on the highway. Ran 3 times on a 1/4 track and after the third time, started hearing a tapping sound. It would get faster if i revved the engine some from idle (1-2k). I cant hear it when i start driving faster b/c of the engine/road noise, so i dont think it gets louder. A friend of mine said that he thinks its lifter tap. The car still drives normal, but I've been staying out of high rpms and boost until i can have it looked at. if it is lifter tap, how serious is it as far as repairs or is it an easy fix.

take it to your mechanic and have him listen with the eletronic scope. i had the same exact thing going on with my car. it sounds just like lifters ticking. found out my balance shaft bearings are going out. reving to 8k all time will do it . go get it looked it and know for sure!
