Poor Catalytic Efficecy

I have been talking to Jarred over at Buschur about my exhaust issues. It seems to be my down pipe and my HFC pipe aren't exactly meeting properly and makes a small leak. The other day i popped a "service engine soon light" so i pulled the code and got P0420 which equates to "catalytic converter efficeny poor"....$hit ! So i erased it in hopes that it would go away. I am almost 100% that i am getting this light because of the leak before the o2 sensor and the sensor picking up the leak.

The question: Does the code send a signal to my ECU to adjust timing because of the condition ? Or is it just a discretionary code ?

For all the trouble i shoulda just went Cat delete, but either way i need to fix the leak cause it keeps tripping the code.

It doesn't affect performance, its just there to tell you that the cat is not functioning properly.

WORKS HFC never pops a CEL and mounts w/factory style flanges at factory points. Co$t$ more due to this, but no headaches due to slip fit stuff.

Has nothing to do with slip fit. The slip fit portions is after the Cat. The leak is where the Cat and downpipe BOLT togeather. It hasnothing to do with the company either (they are great) i just got an odd one (or i could be a tard and this be from a bad install on my part) . I was only wondering about the performance being pulled due to the sensor picking this up. I didn't think it would (or at least the old calibrated foot and @ss can't tell a difference after some "spirited" driving this morning.

i've had that problem for a while now, no big deal.

*Note my problem has nothing to do with it being a buschur TB, it's awesome fit + finish, it was 50+ gallons of c16 through the cat that did it.

Mine throws the code about once every 5 weeks or so. No biggie. I plan on removing the HFC in favor of a TP soon anyways.

Doesn't running leaded gas through a cat clog it up?

I really doubt that a leak is causing the problem that you are experiencing. A leak would allow exhaust gases to escape or allow air into the exhaust. Either one would cause a leaner condition to be seen by cat and sensor. Therefore I doubt that this leak is really attributing to your problem.

I had a similar problem once. It ended up that the core of the cat had debonded from the housing. This allowed exhaust gas to bypass the core on the outside and trigger the CEL.

I hope that this helps
