Question Transfer case Rebuild Ring and pinion

Ok i had the infamous death wine so i finally got around to taking the transfer case out of the car and took it apart had it inspected by a local shop. Aparantly my ring and pinion gear is shot. any one know of anyone selling these of where to buy them. I am kind of on a budget or i would have sent the transfer case to Shep or TRE. I dont have that kind of money so i am going to live with the stock stuff for now i just need to find where i can get these gears. Anyone from TRE or Shep have a way to get a hold of these gears? Went to mitsubishi only thing they offer is 4 seals and a brand new transfer case. Please any info will halp thanks

From what I my buddy was told, once it gets that bad you need a new unit as knowone sell just the gear. They say its like at least $2200 for a case via tre i believe. I find it very hard to believe that these parts cant be sourced, but thats what we were told by everyone.

yeah i had the same problem....luckly found a unit that was bad (someone pried it apart) so the insides were fine. You are going to have to do that or order one as you can't get just a ring and pinion.

I'm just going to reitterate what everyone else here has said. The parts inside the t-case can't be purchased individually. The repair proceedure is buying a new TC. It sucks, but it's the only way. However, I do know that Jon@TRE keeps some spare parts lying around, and he MAY be able to fix your TC, but keep in mind, he knows what those parts are worth and will charge accordingly. You're still looking at a very expensive repair bill. I would start looking for a used TC in the classified section here.

Jon said he could fix my ring and pinion so it appears he has the parts to fix it but it was far from cheap. I just ended up buying a new RalliArt Limited slip Transfer case from him.

If you cannot afford a new one, i would start lookin in the classified or searching junkyards

Yeah the parts from TRE and SHEP were far from cheap but like everyone said it is not something that i expected to be cheap or even find... So I am in the market now for a used one and am searching the classifieds. Just really sucks the car has been in the garage for almost 3 months now.

When you all done with this send your old ring and pinon to a gear company and get some made. Sell them for mad cash. Figure you can get a ring and pinion for a mustang for like 200bones. Im sure rockweel or dana can reproduce these. Im suprised the company that made the generic quife diffs for honda on ebay for $300 bucks has not jumped on this yet. Whats there to loose. LOL maybe i need to do it.
