You will need to get it tuned. You can drive to get from A to Z, but you will need to get the car tuned for optimum performance.

You'll be fine until you can get a tune. I got my fuel pump after my tune and it feels exactly the same. People say you lose some HP with a fuel pump. I'll only retune if I get something else done like cams or bigger turbo but waiting a bit wont be a problem. You'll definately untap some more power with the tune but I dont think you'll have issues if you wait.

What size cams? If your going big, 280 cams, your going to have some real idle issues without a new tune.

Not really. I put in the Comp Cams 280s which are lopier than the HKS 280's. I just turned up my idle and drove the car normally until my tune which was 2 weeks later.

To be honest I would have thought the idle would be really rough even with it turned up. Al dynoflashed my car directly after cam install so I just assumed it would be a joke without a tune. My bad.

I had my 280's installed, and ran it about a week without a tune...no stalling for me!

Your fuel pump won't make any difference, the cams will. Don't beat on it until you've been re-tuned (read: floor the gas pedal @ own risk), but you can putz around town no problems.

This whole "don't beat on your car until you've been retuned" needs to be taken with a grain of salt. For some mods yes, for others, no.

I had cams untuned for about a month - with frequent floorings of the gas pedal w/o problems or issues. Your car will run rich. That's it.

Yes, chances are that the car will be fine, but IMNSHO it is foolish to push the car without KNOWING that it is running within acceptable parameters.

In this case we don't even know which cams are going on the car; whether adjustable cam gears or stock cam gears are being used; nor do we know how aggressive the current tune really is. Anytime you are changing the VE of your engine (which camshafts will) or the air/fuel mix, you should take it easy until you can verify that the engine is operating at a reasonable level of tune. Why risk your whole engine for a lack of patience?

Touche.

With most mail in tunes however, they are on the conservative side of things and considering how 99% of the people have HKS/GSC cams, MOST LIKELY the car will be fine. Although you're correct, you need to exercise good judgment.
